I like that you keep the reference photo in the video. It is helpful. Other artists on KZbin don't do this.

I can never work paint like you do, yours is like it doesn't dry and you can just go in and move pigments around again. And if I worked it with the brush like you do to smoothen it out, it would probably lift colour. It looks so easy when you do it!

You may want to rule out paper before technique. I used to use Bee Paper Watercolor paper and it did not handle water well. I dropped watercoloring because I thought it was too difficult. Picked it up again recently and bought new paper, Arches, Baohong and same paints. It made a huge difference. Now I practice on Baohong, and do most pieces on Arches.

Before you went in with the flat brush to soften the cast shadow, did you let the painting dry? Did you wet the flat brush before you started to soften it?
