My favorite beach boys song. I thank you for that brother.

I have waited most of my life for a lesson on this song! It has been my number one favourite song for probably more than 30 years, ever since I bought the audio tape of Good Morning Vietnam (long time ago!).. It is the most beautiful piece and not from this world, it's from a world that is similar but definitely not the same.. I can't explain it any better as an adult today than I could as a child before.. Its beyond haunting - its more like a place you know so well but haven't been back to in a lifetime.. I don't know, we all see the world differently I guess! I was already a subscriber to your channel so this truly is an unexpected gift - thank you so very much for this xxx

This one was both tedious to make but really fun. I have been putting off doing Surf's Up because it will be challenging but I need to do that one soon.

Good analysis, Tim. Your theory is right-on. Very helpful. And, you knew about the JFK influence . . . well done. I subscribed.

Great stuff! I wish more people could have heard Brian sing live when he was young. His compositions are an amazing bridge between eras while creating things brand new.

I do love Tim's sung presentations of chord progressions. And Beach Boys' stuff really does deserve analyzing.

4 mins in and already learning…thanks!! Glad to get clarification on the 2 and 4 (Dm and F) variations

Always has been one of my favorite BB songs, if only for the sheer audacity of that verse chord progression and making it work with a beautiful melody. Also, I am a sucker for ballads in 6/8…
@TimSmolens7 ай бұрын
Exactly! I also love the 6/8 ballads and give me a beautiful, intriguing melody and chord progression and I am at home.

Thank You! I've always wondered about these different modulation techniques. Very useful.

This is great analysis Tim! would love to hear some more Beach Boys particularly "Girls on the Beach" maybe even a cover!

Great analysis Tim ! What kind of reverb do you use (plugins, type...) ? Thanks !
@TimSmolens7 ай бұрын
I use a vairety of reverbs, for this I am using a combination of echo chamber emulations, I think 3 in this case. UA Capitol Chambers, Ik Multimedia SSSR (the echo chamber) setting) and the altiverb impulse for the Putnam echo chamber. i do tweak the pre-delay and EQ a bit as needed. I send these all to the same aux on three different aux tracks (not in the same channel strip) and mix the levels as needed with the volume faders to make one super echo chamber.

Thanks for your feedback Tim ! It's a great sounding echo chamber, very musical and beautiful. Could you make more videos about music production ? Like use of differents kind of reverb, delays, eqs, sample drums, how you layer parts... It would be great to see how you approach this vast world of music production ! Thanks again, Arnaud

its not a falsetto Brian uses, is it now. commonly made mistake, and its been pointed out by lots of pple lots of times. its a more straight headvoice. thats even more amazing, how can a man sing that high with head voice. but yep Brian could, and its also why he sounds so holy great

and he could only do it for a brief period in his life, like 10-15 years. then it was gone
