My dad died the 1st of Oct 2017, listening to this reminds me of the late nights I'd wake up, come down for a glass of water or just to stretch the legs a moment before going to bed again, he'd nearly always watch western movies and sometimes I'd join him watch a movie to the end before going to bed again, sometimes talk with him. @@ALCOR_46 What i like about Western movies in general is that, while dramatic in a lot of cases, they feel grounded and not over the top. Not to forget the unbearable hot, yet super gorgeous environment in which, nearly every movie takes place. And as of this message, had to hold a tear or 5 back last night. Forgot the movie I watched on Netflix, but it was a Western. Reminded me again about my dad. On the upside, was good memories at least.

@@Bogancharisma arguably, Greece founded "The West", Romans got a new way of The West. Italy had been the center of the west for a long time, as you said, medieaval times, Rennaisance, the Manierism, the Baroque and Neoclasicism... despite not being a economic or military power and, for much time, not even being a political entity, Italy was a cultural center for Europe and the whole "West" From the industrial revolution however, Italy lost its importance, and the anglophone world took the lead. "The British Empire", Victorian Age, and, before these, "The Augustan Age". Britain was "The West", artistically, culturally and economically. The "Far West" is a totally american thing, yes, films like this were very important during the cold war, but the original "Far West", that is all american. "The american dream", again, totally american, and to this day, The States are the leading country of the west, no doubt about that. We are no more the center of "The West", USA is.
@Bogancharisma

@@davideb.4290 Are you of Italian background? I ask so because Greece did little in establishing foundations that Italy expanded on. Greeks introduced Philosophy and nothing else, Archimedes the great mathematician of whom is Greek by proper noun is southern Italian. Rhetoric was founded in Southern Italy, I am sure you are aware of much more. The only reason culture became Anglophone is because France and England didn't want German dominance on the European continent. Germany too has had an influence on the West. Yes I am aware the U.S is the West's centre, and Germany played an influential role in that development.

I was a little girl growing up in a small village in Taiwan in the 1970s. We had at least 4 "foreign feature films" play on TV each weekend. I watched several Sergio's western movies at that time. It nourished my love for movies and music. When I watched the "Ennio: The Maestro" documentary in the theater 9 days ago in Taipei, I couldn't help crying as it brought back so many childhood memories. Thank you, Maestro, for enriching my life ever since.

I was with my Mom, full time, the last few years of her life. One of the great joys was watching old shows/movies that she loved and hadn't seen in years. I didn't know beforehand, but she loved all of Clint Eastwood's Westerns. I rented everything Netflix had - which was everything! - and we slowly made our way through it all, anthology style. Those were the Best Years of my adult life... never to be equaled. We were close beforehand, but the things we learned about one another, and the resolution of small misunderstandings that had been left on dusty shelfs can not be overstated. Life is short... love who you would love and pardon all others with equal fervor. Blessings to everyone here!

Believe it or not the 'cemetery' location at the very end of the Good The Bad & The Ugly (Sad Hill) has been reconstructed to look as it did in the film. It's pathetically sad isn't it? A generation not knowing how iconic these movies and their soundtracks are as a piece of societal consciousness is next to unbelievable. We need to make sure Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone are taught in the classroom in High School as part of a "society and culture 101" course and all students must take it or they don't graduate. If they have to strapped to chairs so be it. Louis Armstrong would be on the list of artists to be taught as well. If you don't know these greats you aren't a worthy member of society simply. All teens should come out better for the experience. They may discover that some of the garbage they listen to uses snippets of classic artists in their samples/beats.

It blows my mind that he was a grade school classmate of Leone. That was the Lord at work. One of his many contributions to music was the prominence of wordless voices in his compositions. In 2010 my adult son and I traveled south of Rome to lay flowers at Leone's grave. We were met by a locked cemetery. We went around back out of sight and scaled the wall to complete our mission, and I treasure the photos from that day. If I'm ever in Rome again I hope to visit Morricone's grave.

I saw Ennio Morricone & his orchestra in London at the O2 shortly before his death, he was then in his 90's, I also later went back to the same venue to see his son conducting Ennio's orchestra while playing Ennio's music. To me Ennio Morricone was & still is the Greatest composer of all time ( & not just for western music ), as he dared to be so different & experimental with his music, which made his music so unforgettable & instantly recognisable, so much so that if Ennio Morricone has scored the music to a movie then you'll know so from the first few notes as no other composers music sounds quite like Ennio Morricone's. Thank you for your magnificent music Mr Morricone & R.I.P.

My Dad died 11 years ago on Oct 5th 2010 My Dad was at the Very Top of the list of Sergio Leon western lovers. He took me almost once every month to the drive-in to see the trilogies of Clint Eastwood films. I was around 6 years old, and I would always sit on the roof of his beach (station) wagons he owned. A lifetime for 50 years in a row we would continue watch, listen to the Albums and talk about those good times nearly every day. As far as I am concerned it was the best moments of my life. We worked together and lived together till the end. I still feel them memories in my heart and sole. On his birthdays and passing day I sit and listen and watch for hours to these songs and watch these movies. I consider myself to be a tuff man. But the memories of these movies being enjoyed with greatest man I have ever known (loved) sill flow a river of tears to this day. How can something So Good Hurt So Bad?

They were remakes of japanese classics of their own right - they just took them to a whole new level. I think it's the lack of hollywood polish, grimy/sandy costumes, moral ambiguity and, of course, the excellent soundtracks that made the films. There are times in the films when you don't even realise the music has started, having grown up from the silence... the tension so real. :)

The best and most versatile composer of all time. Just the number of over 500 (!) film scores to compose is simply incredible. This includes the film music for the five-hour monumental film "1900". He has composed for about 2 complete films per month. It is simply unimaginable what Ennio Morricone has achieved in his life. Just listening to his music, the movie runs in your head. WOW ❤️

Funny to think that some of the greatest Western films in history were created and directed not by Americans but by a great Italian filmmaker like Sergio Leone and some of the most unforgettable soundtracks by another Italian genius like Ennio Morricone. Two artists who belong not only to a geographical homeland but are the heritage of the entire world ❤️

I have lived in Colorado in the American West for some forty years and no music better captures the grandeur of the landscapes here than Ennio Morricone's. Yes, I'm aware many of the film's this music scored were created in Europe, but the land they evoked was the American West. When I travel in Colorado and other Western states, I play Morricone's music on my car's stereo system.

You know Ray, i'm from Argentina and by the 1970's when most of Morricone's hits were known by the films of Sergio Leone and Clint Easwood among others, Argentina was still in most provinces an unexplored territory, and by the way from the age 50 onwards people here have a particular taste for these movies (in my case i'm much younger but inherited that taste from my dad). These movies and music are more universal than what you might think. Also by 1860's which is the time i which the american civil war took place, it was the same situation in Argentina (unitarios vs federales) and lasted for long time. By the way The Good The Bad and The Ugly, is from 1967 and was filmed in the desert of Almeria, Spain, only that it's so similar to the west of the US that you fly and believe for that moment that you are in 1860's american civil war. And, the word ''Spaghetti'' from Sphagetti Western, refers to the italian directors and actors (Leone and Morricone are italians, plus mostly were fimed in natural locations in Spain and Italy) and are sub-genre of the Western; that is the Sphagetti Western.

I think that we can all agree that this music is haunting and beautiful, and evokes the imagery of dry desert landscapes - regardless of geographic location. Whether it's Spain, Argentina, the USA or elsewhere, Ennio Morricone crafted the perfect music to evoke the images of these desolate places!

His soundtracks were unique not only for the melodies, but in particular for the "special effects" that he included in his music. The use of special and particular musical instruments that made a particular effect, which created an atmosphere, a tension in the scenes of the films to make them immortal scenes. Without his music, the films that later became would not have become. He has created unique compositions that no one else in the world has ever made. Our Michelangelo, our Leonardo da Vinci of music. GRAZIE MAESTRO for all the emotions you have given us !

Ha ! I think that there should be a statue of the man placed in San Antonio. Ennio Morricone is as Western as the Alamo. His music has impacted many young man, as has the gallantry of the men that stood on the walls of that old mission. * I've seen many guys stop what they were doing when the theme for "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" starts playing. When a man didn't call 911, when a man didn't have a "man bunn" or get his nails done.

@@enniopaone I understand that Rome is where he's from, but it's obvious from his music, his heart was out west. His persona, through his music (and it's obvious impact) that the man should be in a saddle, wearing a gun belt, and a Stetson. A statue in Rome, sure ! Why not ? But the man should be memorialized someplace in Texas. Maybe in Bandera Texas, the supposed cowboy capital of the world. The man made an indelible mark.
