In George Thomas's book he mentions a bit about knurling that made a lot of sense to me. His point was that as the knurl nears it's finished state the knurl should be closely inspected with a magnifying glass after each pass until the finished knurl points are very tiny flats or just come to a point. Going further than that causes the very tips of the points to start to flake off as more material is extruded upwards as the knurl continues to deepen. That flaking material will increase and start to degrade the look of the knurling as it gets re-impressed back into the flanks of the knurled surface. He also mentions material flaking off also happens naturally as part of the knurling process so using "copious" amounts of oil to help flush off those flakes as they are created is helpful. I believe he was 100% correct and following what he had to say seems to work well. Starting as you did Alan by brushing out the knurling wheels until there clean is a very good idea as well. Good knurling can only be as good as the quality and proper hardness of the knurling wheels to start with and there expensive. The cheap off shore knurling wheels aren't worth buying for anyone who takes a bit of pride in there finished work. Rough finished knurling wheels can only produce a poor knurl. It's impossible for them to do otherwise.

Great feature in your lathe chuck to allow center alignment, every chuck should have it. The fixed wheel knurling tool is practical, but applies far more pressure and consequent wear and tear, to the lathe spindle and related components. If you watch your video carefully, you'll see the work piece deflect as you deploy the knurls against it. Cheers

Hi Jorge Yes I did notice the deflection when I was editing the video it shows up more in slow motion. Thanks for you comment Alan
