If the protest organisers won't take responsibility for what is happening at those protests and it is having a negative impact on another community and society in that city, then there is a responsibility to protect the majority. There is nothing wrong with having a smaller protest that the police are able to control and if vast numbers turn up they are prevented from joining the protest and arrested if they don't leave, also the protest organisers should be made to pay for the policing, if it's a one off fair enough but when there have been so many it's not for the public to foot the bill for their political beliefs. Now there is violence and the protesters aren't taking any responsibility for their behaviour, then the police need to do what they should have done months ago, instead of enabling and emboldening them they need to be tougher and put in more restrictions, which is what they should have done in the first place and been tougher. Now they are paying the price for their appeasement which they have brought upon themselves.

I am not a Brit. I am of British ancestry (as well of others) and would like to give this insight for what it's worth. I met a group of relatives for lunch in an old inn that dates back before the Revolutions war. As we walked through the rooms of the old inn, we spoke of other historical sites close by. One of the things we agreed on was not just our interest in these places but the connection we felt to them. I don't see how people of a radically different background can feel that same connection. Islamists in Britain who cannot unreservedly swear allegiance first to Britain IMHO do not have the best interest at heart.
