His origin literally shows him aprehending animals WITHOUT KILLING THEM. Why? So he can train to get better by fighting them with his bare hands or to use them as pets. Of course, people don't actually read the comics, they see a guy wearing a lion head as a jacket and a bunch of trophies on the wall, they automatically think he's the definition of a hunter stereotype when he's in fact not. But just a "Venom Vs Spider-Man story"? For what reason? Is it supposed to end with only one surviving? You see the problem with that? There's not set up, nothing, not even a reason. They should've just brought Hardy Venom in 'Spider-Man - No Way Home' as an Andrew Spidey villain. "Oh but we never saw Venom in the Andrew movies" we don't need to, the movie could just have Eddie being mad at Peter for something he did in New York before he went to San Francisco while Venom hating Spider-Man for getting every version of him killed in the multiverse. We could have Andrew Peter and Hardy Eddie come to an understanding at the end, just like the comics, and Venom helping the Spider-Men. After 'SM - NWH', we could get the third Andrew movie showing what Andrew Peter did to Hardy Eddie in the past, as well as Peter getting the symbiote before Life Foundation got it.

The problem isn't the characters they're adapting, its how they adapt these characters in such weird ways that take away elements of why said villains became so popular because of their iconic dichotomy between their equally iconic hero counterparts. Not to mention these movies are not always well written and you can tell these studios are desperately trying to milk these characters to be their own thing despite not grasping the long term context of the characters and how fundamental they are to their heroic rivals. That juxtaposition is important and shouldn't be forgotten about but written well and explore how that dynamic would apply in a movie instead of just making them antiheroes when they really don't need to be

The sony films could’ve worked if they were part of the tasm films, they could’ve had Andrew s Peter face both venom & kraven in a third and had those characters go on their own arcs. Between the joker films and the Gotham tv series, Gotham did a better job at having a joker figure around a young Bruce Wayne before he becomes Batman. And so far the one products that r handling this better r Loki , Agatha, and penguin because there doing there things without having to retcon or separate anything completely from the lore.

A comic book villain movie where the villain is a protagonistic antihero and the protagonist is a misguided antagonist. For example Venom could be targeting groups that are objectively harming a misfortunate underclass of people that are important to them. Tom holland's spiderman could be made the antagonist here because his immaturity has him misguidedly protecting those institutions that are objectively causing harm. Spiderman can be characterized as trying to "settle this through the proper channels" and "reform by one small change at a time". While venom could be characterized as wishing to make more radical changes, "suffering should end right away". This could work to challenge the "great power, great responsibility" belief by having spiderman want to use his power to not risk collateral damage, while still wanting to use his power for change. And Venom sees a responsibility to use his power to dismantle institutions that do harm by expending groups of people.

I used to absolutely hate the idea of comic book villains getting their own movies and thought it would never work, with the exception of maybe a couple characters whose stories I thought could warrant a movie. But I’ve kind of changed my tune since. I’m starting to think that villain centric movies aren’t the issue, but *who* you get to create them and *how* you create them is what matters. I’m convinced that there’s definitely a certain way to do them and Hollywood hasn’t necessarily cracked the code on it yet. The first Joker movie so far is an outlier but they showed that it CAN work (though I still haven’t seen it yet and don’t really need to). But the tv series’ seem to be a different story. They might have cracked the code on that (though I’m still not sold on Agatha or convinced that it’s actually good lol). Penguin especially is really good so far. But even then, how many villain centric projects do we really need? We are getting a Deathstroke & Bane movie from the DCU and I’ve always thought of Deathstroke as somebody who could warrant his own movie plus Bane is a great villain. But how they’ll most likely make it work is this universe’s Batman will be established and Bane and/or Deathstroke will forsure face off with him at some point whether it’s before or after their movie. The issue seems to be like you said, when they start disconnecting the villain from their superhero counterpart. And, again, the only time that worked was with Joker 1.

Some things that you are wrong about(in the first 3 minutes.I stopped after 2:53,sine your takes are really bad): 1) Kraven was always an animal lover who hatex the modern way of hunting.Kraven doesn't always hunt to kill and hates poachers and those who use guns to hunt animals.Sony is doing a good job with Kraven so far; 2) Venom would had been a pretty good ally for Spider-man if Peter didn't reject Venom and tried to kill him.A venom who never has to deal with Parker, doesn't become evil,so he can become a hero very simply and believely; 3)The Venom movies are really good, hell Morbius (outside of the multiverse stuff) was good. The only actual bad apple was Madame Web. Edit:I got to 6:05 And i gotta say that at least your right about Black Adam being a bad movie and Dwayne Johnson being an ego Driven man,but your wrong about the Joker.Joker in the comics dosent have a definitive origin story from where it deviates,So the movie making this Joker different from the rest(since Joker changes as a character with each era/reboot/universe) is not a bad thing. If you said it that it was your opinion, then i wouldn't be upset, but your saying it like its an actual fact, which is not true. Edit2:I got to the end of the movie, and yeah, your right about Joker 2 being bad and Loki, Agatha and Penguin being good villain shows, however, your wrong about none of the villain movies doing good, they did good and the right way. When adapting a comic book character, let people go wild!As long as they don't do anything stupid, then let them go wild with the origins of the characters and background.

Joker 2 really doesnt have anything to do with the Joker or Batman, but i was kinda looking forward to you discussing it. I really think you should go see it and talk about it here. It'd be funny and insightful

We live in very twisted times, where Superman is used more as a villain in stories while insane psychopaths like Harley Quin and tyrannical dictators like Black Adam are sitting on the table with the justice league. Honestly I always hated this idiotic pretentious trend of villains being redeemed or changing who they are to make them more sympathetic. It is really irritating, sure sometimes it works like with Red Hood and Winter Soldier, but other characters such as Harley, Venom, Catwoman, Magneto, Poison Ivy, Clayface, Black Adam and others are all villains and should remain as such. Being morally gray works for some characters but not for others. Deadpool and Constantine for example are supposed to be morally grey. Superman and Spider-Man are supposed to be morally good. While the Joker and the Red Skull are supposed to be evil. Every character is different and are supposed to be different things.

Anti hero Venom only works BECAUSE we see that character development from villain to hero its what makes that character special to me and many others. I like goofy venom but even in the comics he wasnt on THAT level of goofy at least not intentionally. No Spiderman means no character development

Even with the limitations of Covid, Let There Be Carnage doing as well as it did helped encourage other to put bigger movies back on the big screen without the need for a side release on VOD and while the other Sony Spider-Man spinoffs haven’t done nearly as well, Venom maintaining the fan base he has is sure to at least bring him a decent Box Office return with The Last Dance

Yes, after 2024 having comic book movies about villains should be done because the way how studios executed these movies, sucks while the shows in a perfect way.

THANK YOU!! I'm beyond sick of this movie trope & I hate that they're doing it for literally EVERY comic book villain! NO YOU FUCKING DON'T!! The only exception is Venom because it fits his story in the comics. But even then, Sony STILL fucks it up horrifically!

These movies could've been so good, but it's like the studios don't know how to do it. Either they do it right like DC did with the first Joker and the Penguin show, or... they step back and turn them into heroes like the Sony movies and the second Joker movie. Stop trying to make villains so small, they're so much more! They're not victims trying to do good, they don't care about petty things like what people do to them, they care about what they want and they do bad things to get what they want. It's ok to have some motivation like Thanos or Zod, but you have to remember, they do bad things to achieve their goals. It's their decisions what makes them villains and that's what people want to see. It's much more interesting to see a character choosing to do what will create the conflict then to see them fighting against it. Look at 'American Psycho', 'Godfather', 'Wolf of Wall Street', 'Breaking Bad', 'Sopranos', 'Game of Thrones', they're all examples of how to make villains protagonists, so stop deconstructing them. Just take and build up on them.

I disagree with you. I need movies about Comic Book Villains, as we need movies about Comic Book Heroes. The issue with the movies we’ve been getting is that most of them are terrible or sequels that didn’t understand why everyone loved the original.

I feel like comic book villain movies could be interesting without the heros if the studios just had faith in the characters. You don’t have to ruin the character by making them more of a protagonist - just give them more depth, that’s why Walter White is such a compelling villain in Breaking Bad - he is multi layered and the audience cares about him despite his actions.

If they wanna make a Villain Movie, MAKE A *VILLAIN* MOVIE. Not some Anti-Hero BS where The Character is Likeable. Make the Villain a Irredeemable Menace who’s truly Evil, Show them Winning despite The Hero’s most Valiant Efforts. We’ve been getting Anti-Hero movies disguised as Villain Movies. We want True Villain Movies.

Comic book villain movies aren't a bad idea it's how they are presented. In fact I have an idea for a Red Skull movie that is completely grounded with no affiliation to the superhero genre. It would essentially be a family drama film taking place in modern times and about this guy who falls victim to neo Nazis and white nationalism by the fascist society that is being plagued. The idea of where he got the Red Skull mask would be an attempt to sway other to his side thinking it just looks badass. This turns a seemingly harmless object that has no meaning into something that is associated with a hateful ideology. The family drama aspect would be represented in the form of him slowly losing his family where they don't agree with his ideology and try to help steer in on the right path before it's too late with it ultimately concluding in them disowning him. There would be a strong emphasis of how even though he fell victim to an immorally bad ideology, he has done way too much damage to try to redeem himself. I think this would be best directed by Spike Lee or someone like him at least. Obviously there would be controversy comic book fans would have and I do understand that but I think ideas like this are something worth exploring as they in new types of creativity
