I noticed that for some of the characters, the spelling of the pronoun changed! Like Tori using katakana to sound even more obnoxious,,, I think? Do you have any insights as to how a pronoun changes depending if it’s spelled in kanji/hiragana/katakana?

@@melozules Yeah I realized that too. It's mostly for quirkiness or character. For example, Kanata's words are written in hiragana, to express his slow way of speech. Souma uses a few extinct kanji here and there. Natsume ended every sentence with katakana, but I don't really understand how this translates to English. It's mostly just for written characterization I don't think pronouns change just because you wrote it differently. Whether you wrote it in hiragana, katakana, or latin, watashi is watashi. But I guess in written form some characterization can be found: Hiragana is the simplified text. People who only started to learn Japanese often start with hiragana People who writes in all hiragana is often considered to be childish or unsophisticated Katakana is a script used to transliterate foreign words into Japanese. You don't actually write in full katakana, but if you do, then that means you're using a lot of English words in your sentence.

I know this is a 4 month old comment, but i wanted to note that afaik "Jibun" also has a military tone and is used by Japanese soldiers (which is important for Ibara). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

fun fact! outside of 3rd person pronouns, HiMERU uses 'ore', which is why some fans call him OreMERU to differentiate him from the original HiMERU, who uses 'boku'!

Kinda funny how Hiiro looks like someone who ofc would use ore but he uses boku, and Aira, sometimes being categorized as "cutie", is using ore Same with Mayoi and Tatsumi, I always thought Tattsun-senpai would use watashi

Hiiro's use of boku actually makes a lot of sense, since he grew up around his older brother, he naturally used boku (which I heard that younger boys used) and just got used to that.

​@@Itoshimi Usually in anime, boku is used by younger or cute boys (like Tori or Hajime) while ore is a more common pronoun but it's a lil bit more vulgar - thats why Im surprise Aira uses it instead of Hiiro

@@MaiNguyen-rn7zx true, but 'boku' is also used often by characters that are naive or innocent, which I think are qualities that apply to Hiiro. Aira is kind of boastful at times (yet still insecure), so I'm not really that surprised by his usage of 'ore' since he's not really trying to purposely come off as cute so that pronoun fits him more.

I havent read Obbligato so idk if Tatsumi has been using "ore" the whole time but its kinda weird for who was once considered God like him. As for Mayoi I assume he is being humble (?) but usually normal people of average household would not use watashi as their pronoun, even girls
