I picked this up over the weekend. I’ve never played a survival game before so I wasn’t sure if I’d like it…but my spidey senses were tingling. Turns out over the 48 hours, I spent 40 of them balls deep into the game. The amount of freedom and creativity it inspires is just phenomenal. Base building is an incredibly satisfying time-sink. When you’re done tinkering, you tool up and venture out into this beautiful world to go on voyages of discovery. I’m calling it now, this is hands down, THE most fun I’ll have in a game all year and easily the best 27€ I’ll spend all year. For a game that’s supposedly E.A. Keen studios has knocked this out of the park. There’s no frustration here, it’s just fun and satisfying discovery ALL the time.

Been wanting to play a game like this so when I found out about it, i as already interested. Combining survival, base building, exploration, crafting, with a storyline and a skill system that can be progressed and evolved sounds quite fun. I can’t wait to try it.

I wouldn't argue against adding seafaring. But..... at the same time - I thought it was a bit too much in Valheim depending on the seed you have. Another similar (ish....) game - Stranded Deep... Wayyyyyy too much seafaring. This obviously makes more sense being "Stranded Deep" on an island.. but still.. I hate being handcuffed to sailing. Just hope they don't lean too much on it. Considering its not in yet... I would assume it wont be too much.

I truly hope they can balance the difficulty, I'd rather a game being slightly too hard over slightly too easy. Especially for survival titles, I want an epic adventure with many challenge to overcome. Valheim nailed this, and this game being pretty much a Valheim successor, I hope they can give me just as epic a journey.

Oh, nono its not valheim. Definitely not. Feels more akin to an rpg with slight survival elements. Outward combined with kingdoms of amalur, possible dragons dogma without the climbing. Thats the closest description i can give after playing it for 30+hours. The game has plenty of challenge later but its definitely not darksouls. You as a player get pretty damn powerful in this one.

the one thing i wish in games like this and valheim is i want to start in a harsh envirment like snow or desert where i have to quickly find or build shelter and clothes etc atleast give us the choice :D to go hardcore lol

I am 100% certain there will be a mod for this. But this game will probably not allow much in terms of random spawns. Zones are gated by shroudroots and enemy lvls, so we are looking at static progression form zone to zone.

I have both. I like both. Enshrouded has a more streamlined experience with less sandbox and more a b c progression. I feel like i am playing an rpg with a mainquest and an endgoal. Palworld is more about basebuilding, crafting and collecting pals. You also are not bound to your character, which could be easily replaced with someone else.

there wasn’t before- and for storage you could just dump everything in a chest and pull from it for crafting. we shall see though anything could change

no, just bag slots. You can craft bags to expand the room you have. You can also craft special cests that allow you to craft most stuff without ever touching the actual chest. Just like in palworld. I will go more indepth in my review tomorrow once the nda is lifted.

I really hope they make the enemies harder or the content after the beta is harder. In the beta the combat wasn`t really a challenge unless you hit a explosive barrel for example or multiple mobs hit you with a bomb you were in no danger at all. Otherwise the game lives rent free in my head .. i`m counting the days with itchy fingers to spend few hundred hours in it

Heared about this later, the game seems to be badly optimized for lower end systems. I personally didn´t have any issues with a 3070ti, but thats to be expected. I hope it got a performance and optimization pass

I say mods will say otherwise about not being able to be both a full mage and full warrior. For me I always dislike games that stop me for learning everything if I am willing to put in the time and believe there should be ways to get as many skill points as a player wants(maybe through quest or something like that) so a player can truly make the character they want even if it is a OP master of all character. Also I am a bit disappointed you need NPC to craft some items meaning your character can't be a true full crafter

I am also not certain about a lvl cap. If they do not implement one you could easily become a god amongst men. I personally love hybrid mage warrior leaning into a spellblade type playstyle, so having the option to max it as much as possible would be preferable! At worst we will have to throw in an easy lvl cap increase mod.

I am an RPG fanatic, I love open world games, but I just cannot get into it. : / Already refunded. I'm not quite sure what it is about it, maybe it's the excessive material grinding or just the combat in general, but something feels wrong and unintuitive to me.

The combat is very basic and boring, the enemies are braindead and their pathfinding inexistent. The player character looks awful, the running to standing animation is janky and jerks the camera in a very bothersome manner. The frame rate issue makes you nauseous and the effect seems worse on larger screens (wide and ultrawide). The multiplayer is designed in a way that every player should be there all the time or they are just missing out since progression is tight to the world and not the player so you come back and lose interest in the game immediately. Each player cannot go and build their own thing. The base building is cool. The lighting is great. The skill tree looks interesting. That's where the game is at currently.

This game will be dead before release. There is nothing to keep you challenged. There is nothing new or refreshing about the game that you can’t find anywhere else. There’s no PVP, no base raids, no real survival mechanics as hunger/thirst are nothing more than an afterthought that make very little difference. You will be bored after 30 hours. You made your base, used the same three attacks 200000000 times. There’s no challenge and no endgame. The magic is boring and uninspired. The crafting is boring and uninspired. The game is boring. I have no idea why everyone is hyping this game up. Every survival game out there is better. I really wonder if these reviewers are payed to say this stuff. It’s just not honest.

Depends what you are trying to run it on. If your PC is basically a Casio calculator in a larger box then no. It's not going to run great. I imagine it'll be fine on my 7900xtx / 7800x3d. I'll let you know

What are you basing on this being overhyped? For this genre this looks very promising, for AAA games? not really, its like AA survival game, the issues were simplistic combat and enemies being weak which are adjustable, everything else for survival game is one of the better in the genre atm.

It's just a generic recombination of what we have been playing dozens of times last 15 years with not even a special cherry on top and nothing that shouts: 'Play me!'. It saw and felt same before No man's sky was released for example, when everyone was going crazy about it. And it has proven right so. I think it's because the concept of 'combine what people liked before' does not work for creating a great game. For a game that combines already seen features to become a great game it has to deliver additional special qualities that stem from an a symbiosis that make the result much bigger than the sum of it's parts. And I sadly don't see anything like this in the game, yet.

@@Mordarim Agree completely, people say where "innovative and genre breaking new era" gameplay as if its something everyone should do on every indie game release and if its not - its mediocre game that nobody cares about it (usually just them) also the funniest part they never give examples of their "dreams game" lol. Give me polished, nice looking, good QoL features survival game with new spin and its easily few hundred hours, make it Enshrouded building system and oh boy, i want to make my hallow mountain cave man home and have a nice balcony for pretty view to enjoy the graphics and on a side be gliding down spot.

Hej look, its a great addition yes, but so are the sound, music, gameplay,, story, itemization etc, EVERYTHING matter when producing a game but does a single category automaticly makes a game FUN or GOOD? Whats fun to you? Why do you think so many players prefer WoW classic before WoW retail? Why are so many players enjoying Diablo 2 more than Diablo 4? (Just an example) I personally prefer older games before newer games because for me they are more FUN. I like good graphics dont get me wrong, I also have a ps5, but first I want a good game that is fun that I dont get bored within 15 hours. "A pig with makeup is still a pig" if you know what I mean.
