there is a lot of coal below the yaks that are in front of the tower for fast travel. I got up there from below accidentally and saw a tons :)

Blast furnace is so much better than the Smelter the Selter has a 10 iron ore for 10 iron ingots, where in the blast furnace it's 15 iron ore for 20 iron ingots plus the new recipes are the blast furnace only. However the blast furnace requires coal and for the example above iron ore, so coal replace the smelters charcoal requirement.

oh can you get to the blast furnance by going up the mountain? i spent ages looking for a way through, hit deadly shroud and came back n gave up. no one seemed to explain it so i felt like a dummy that i hadn't found it lol

If you got deadly shroud you will need to upgrade your flame altar :) The bellows are in the location mentioned though, and once you've unlocked the mountain biome you should be able to go up and get them. Just beware of the cold

I do! In the Laboratory there should be a recipe for mauveine, make that, pick it up and you should be able to make violet fabric in your hunter lady. Mauveine takes tar, alchemical base, nitrate and sulfur @gokoov1
