This is NRK, basically the equivalent of the CBC or BBC or PBS for Norway. The fact that they play enslaved (and another time I saw Dimmu Borgir) just shows how awesome the country is.

This is a common formula in European talk shows. Intimate setting, invite different kind of people from various walks of life and see where it goes, finish with a band playing a song. Anything goes, as long as it sparks some interest. In American talk shows everything revolves around the host and everything is fully staged and there's an audience that goes whoo all the time. Here, talk shows are actually about people having conversations; that's pretty much the main difference. :p

They aren't playing to the crowd, but the TV audience. The TV show is a somewhat satirical debate and talkshow (with a bureaucracy theme, hence the archives and such). It's a rather popular and much loved show that many young people (16-35) watch. The show probably gathers very few straight pop music fans. Why would they not play? Just because the crowd isn't moshing? It's Norway, not everyone has ADHD here.

This is why if it's a club I prefer to sit somewhere in the venue with a decent view of the band(s) and just relax. Can't deal with being in the front anymore. I'm much too old and having long hair up there makes it a target for moshers to grab & pull, and even when no one is doing anything but swaying back & forth & side to side, it still feels like the hair is being pulled because of bodies compressing against each other with sweat!

@petecanthropus99477 жыл бұрын
No. The ways to fuck a classic are either trying to sound like the original (something which is useless and usually destined to failure) or making a nonsensical reinterpretation in your own shitty style betraying the original feeling (i.e. Guns 'N Roses version of Knocking on Heaven's Door or Shakira's version of Back in Black). Enslaved's is a rendition bringing the song to their own style, being respectful with both the song and themselves, just adding a new point of view but keeping the feeling. Of course there are also some great "renditions" which don't respect the original feeling, which are just made for fun, like the bluegrass versions made by Steve'n'Seagulls or the lounge versions by Richard Cheese, but that's another story.

To sell out means to put your own values, principles and integrity aside for money and fame. What your personal view on how a "real" metal musician should behave in public is not relevant.
@WyvernThirteen11 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. I find it a bit difficult to explain since there are a lot of things to go into. Although a lot of Icelanders arent religious there's plenty of people who believe in god but arent that active in practicing the religion. But there's also more then a few overly zealous nutjobs. It doesnt help that most of the politicians seem to be very stuck in their support of the state-church. Especially the right-wing conservatives, who incidentally are the ones generally forming the government.

I absolutely love black metal (though of course Enslaved hasn't really been black metal for a while) but this cover is fucking terrible. It was literally embarrassing to watch.
@mittenswartooth731411 жыл бұрын
I find moshing to be extremely dumb, what happened to just enjoying the music and do some headbanging. I just saw wintersun a few weeks ago and i was crushed in the front because all the people were pushing each other to make room for the stupid "pit", that was going on in the back. then you have people just pushing and punching people so that they could get in the front...ruined the show for me.
@pauliheikkila15610 жыл бұрын
Only problem with this cover is the unnecessary addition of growling, as it just doesn't work with this song... Otherwise, it would have been fine example of respecting a classic.
@peterkeys11057 жыл бұрын
Its... enslaved... and its a cover. what the fuck did you expect? Why would you even want anyone to try and replicate a cover in the same way, leave that for the records
@pauliheikkila1567 жыл бұрын
Hey man, you do know the thing about opinions and assholes? Just stated mine opinion. I'm sure you have yours. And besides, I said the growling was unnecessary, I didn't say anything about replicating.
@KrisOfUtumno7 жыл бұрын
I think otherwise - growl here is necessary and sounds very good. It's very good they used growling vocals. As for me it's crucial for this band and it's a good innovation to the song.
@opentls7 жыл бұрын
If the only defense of your opinion is that you have the right to have it, it's a pretty shit opinion.
@LouGruff9 жыл бұрын
Nope. This is terrible. The growling on here is an embarrassment. If you cover a Led Zeppelin song, do it right. Jimmy Page should sue.
@SicStrandps39 жыл бұрын
A cover means they are doing a remake, not the exact same song with riffs and so on. Maybe they didn't want to sing, cause Robert Plant is a legend
