We must be as bold as the change we wish to see. Oatman Flats Ranch embodies this boldness. Led by Yadi Wang, him and his team cultivate food in the desert using ancient knowledge and cutting-edge agro-ecological principles. The farm thrives as a harmonious blend of people, crops, domesticated animals, native flora, and fauna.
Context played a big part in the Regenerate AZ event, as we learned from both current and past communities and ranch’s history. This helped us identify issues and create an action plan as a dynamic group with unique voices.
We had the opportunity to present the progress of EnSoil Algae in this arid climate, with our fields demonstrating denser biomass compared to fields using the same variety of cover crops. EnSoil works well in this system because it's very effective at helping plants adapt to stress, such as salt or drought. The plants produce enzymes to detoxify these compounds, and when combined with algae, the levels of these enzymes increase in the plants. That's why the plants become more resistant to drought, allowing them to grow taller and produce more plant material, as Yadi witnessed.
Our team is grateful for the lessons we've learned from Regenerate AZ, its two-legged participants, and the various inhabitants, such as sheep, javelina, mesquite trees, stars, owls, and guard dogs. We look forward to sharing these insights with our growers and continuing the relationships we've built.
