I’m a weapon collector and I practice Tai Chi. Believe it or not, wood is not only good for practice but actually quite effective in live combat. Steel is easier to work with and typically pricey.

The montage of "wooden taiji swords" looks like only one with a wooden sword, the rest metal (unless they painted or used tin foil for god knows what reason). Just as well to put it at the end, because it would have started the video with something other than what described. But the point of using a wooden sword in a public place is well taken, even the collapsible swords could raise alarm

Interestingly enough you almost never see anyone using a wooden sword in a Chinese park. They will go for metal versions right from the get-go. I have a wood sword. It only ever gets used if I have nothing else to hand or I am in a place where a live blade would cause public concern (again, not something that happens in China).

Yeah here in the UK that is very different! even a wooden sword can be seen as dangerous!
