The part of the blue Captain killing his unit is very accurate. Often during the war, soldiers would flee the battlefield. But if they were caught fleeing or found later on, the death penalty could be applied immediately, to discourage other troops from fleeing the battle. They served as exemple, just like this soldier did. Amazing short, i hope we'll see more of this work from you in the future !

The violence is absolutely brutal, the sound, particularly when the artillery fires the barrage, is stunning, the animation is top notch and I loved the ending. The lack of dialogue makes the subtle body language stand out and emphasises on the deafening roar of war. The music choice is good and surprisingly enough, tf2 artstyle is suitable for even a non-comedic film like this. My only complaint is that the damn film ended.

The scene with the Blu soldier getting shot by his captain makes me remember of a French movie on WW1. It's a military trial about a soldier who managed to escape the No Man's Land, but who got arrested immediatly by his country. His captain tries to defend him, because he made some great job. But it's pointless. The juge (a military) refuses to liberates him and condamn him immediatly to death for "cowardice", without any inspections. The soldier is taken away, and we don't see him anymore...

I think this successfully displayed the horrors of the trench wars. As the attacker, you'll sacrifice tens of thousands just to get to the enemy's trench. As the defender, you'll have to clean up the mess that is your dead comrades and prepare for the next assault, no time to mourn the dead.

“What I remember about the war with the Blu, wasn’t the smell of gunpowder, or gasoline and napalm, nor the smell of the dead, it was the sight of the blu superiors. How anyone seen retreating from a battle was shot down like a traitor. I remember my fellow brothers in arms saying that the soldiers of blu weren’t fearless, that they were afraid of us. It’s just that they were more afraid of their higher ups, and what they’d do to them than what we’d do to em. Every battle, was a battle to the bitter end. Till the very last blu soldier laid dead and the commanders and generals of their forces killed themselves rather than dying to ‘red scum’. I can still see them, I can still see them all today, whenever I shut my eyes” -retired RED soldier, about his opinion about the war and the enemy.
