I wish I could send this song to my teenage self and say “what you’re feeling right now is completely normal that you will begin to get over after years of taught & internalised homophobia, please don’t worry so much about what people think”. This is literally so poignant I’m close to crying about my sexuality for the first time in about 5 years, especially the line “Surely, my friends and family, my god and my ends, they cannot all be wrong, so I play along.” Idk how Rou managed to sum up the feelings so well when they aren’t even his feelings and he was instead being empathetic towards his friend but it’s masterful.

Songs like this are the masterful work of empathy. Like Rou, I'm a straight male - but my heart aches when I think about someone being told they're wrong for being who they are. I'm glad you're able to feel some sort of acceptance and catharsis from this track :)

I've loved Shikari for so many years now, they've been such a big part of my life and have inspired me in countless ways. I came out to close friends last year as transgender, and hearing Satellites has given me a whole new level of appreciation for the band. I'm terrified of going public with who I am, and how I want to portray myself, and hearing Rou sing these words has resonated with me deeply - God fucking damn, I can't even begin to express through words how much I adore them. I hope they keep up the good fight for years to come.

I relate much to what you say. I'm openly non-binary (Assigned male at birth), but it's still really scary at times when meeting new people. But the fact that my favorite band of like 9 years made a song for us, it made me so happy, and made me feel the love they have for us. Be who you are, everyone who judges you suck, you are worth so much more. Much love, friend

As a trans girl in a relationship at the moment, it's amazing how much the song hits the mark for how it feels. That fear of wanting to go out somewhere with the love of my life and experience the beauties of the world, but not knowing how society is going to treat us. By experience alone, this beats out Undercover Agents as my favorite song from Enter Shikari, honestly. By the way - and by no obligation at all - if you're on the Aether DC, I have a character on Jenova under the same name I have here if you want to to talk about personal experiences.

It might take me a few more listens in full to appreciate the album in it's entirety and I wasn't really feeling some of the tracks to be honest, but this song is not only by far the standout track on the album in my opinion, but one of the finest songs Shikari have ever came out with. I have been playing it on repeat almost non-stop and I'm sure seeing it live would be awesome. I am straight but the message on this track is so important. Love is universal no matter who you are... I am so proud of this band and I have been following them ever since the Take to the Skies days way back in 2007. This band continues to evolve with each album... well done boys. I love these smart details! If you listen to some LGBTQ+ artists like Sophie or Arca, they use a lot of sounds in their production, we are not used to from mainstream pop music. They add a lot of percussion, high pithced vocals, vocoders, synth drums etc. Search for hyperpop music :) I am pretty sure that ES added these layers intentionally to resemble this music movement and it perfectly fits the message of this song! :)
