Going to Neutral ground in the city was one of my fondest memories as a young magic player! Hands-down, best ever!!!

I remember going to NYC in 1998 to participate in the Pro Tour and hanging out at Neutral Ground every day I was in the city - having come all the way from Argentina. After getting home I was asked what I had done the time I was there and people were floored to learn I had barely seen the city. I was 18 - it was totally worth it!

"Anemoia" is a term meaning 'nostalgia for a time or place you never experienced.' That's this video.

I used to skip school in New Jersey to take the train into Manhattan to go and visit Neutral Ground. I can still remember the distinct smell when the elevator doors opened and I knew I was about to have the time of my life… Miss those days

I still have my Neutral Ground playmats. Definitely had good times playing there during the peak years 98-01.

My dad was military and we moved around a lot. Magic was always my way to make friends when i went to a new school. I was fortunate and was able to find some really cool LGS to be a part of during the golden age.

Playing Duke Nukem 3D and C&C on the LAN at Neutral Ground was like doing cocaine back in the day. Neutral Ground was a place I fell in love with in addition to playing MtG, meeting new people and demoing lots of odd games. Good times :)

I remember during one of the PTQs they rented the 10th floor to expand the space for the tournament, and people were playing their rounds in cubicals upstairs. All my games were on the usual 9th floor, although now I wish I had played upstairs too 😂

It may be in tribute to this first MtG Neutral Ground - a lot of more MtG companies take their name from early famous cards, concepts and events (both in-story concepts and looking at it from a real world meta perspective). For example - TappedOut, MtGGoldfish, ChannelFireball, etc. So I wouldn't be surprised if your company was referencing, in homage, the first series of MtG tournaments.

I realize this is way late. And in midst of the pandemic. But I think the closest we got now is Montasy. It's... somewhere in midtown Manhattan, I forget the address.
@RetrocadePodcast3 жыл бұрын
@@locke103 Montasy is like 1/20th the size of Neutral Ground. Neutral Ground had around 6000 sq ft of playing space. I remember during one of the PTQs they rented the 10th floor to expand the space for the tournament, and people were playing their rounds in cubicals upstairs. All my games were were on the usual 9th floor, although now I wish I had played upstairs too 😂

@@RetrocadePodcast I've only ever been there twice, but I heard the stories. Due to my age, the lack of funds and my bat shit mother prevented me from venturing out that far on my own. Truly an era I wish I could have been a part of, never mind how much I suck at Magic.

Holy crap, that last story smells of lawsuit, but BDM did covered his ass by saying at the end that he did not know whether that story was true or not. Where the h*ll did he go relieve himself or did he hold his bladder for 36 hrs? I'm surprised his parents didn't go bonkers (maybe they did).
