The Big Mountain Torpedo.
The Big Mountain Torpedo (located in Ward 5, Vung Tau City today) was built by the Japanese fascists in 1944. This was the place to store Japanese naval weapons.
In July 1941, Japan forced France to sign the "Common Defense Commitment of Indochina" treaty with Japan. With this treaty, Japan completely commanded France militarily. By October 1941, Japan landed in Vung Tau, quickly occupying an important position on Big Mountain, guarding the Vung Tau - Can Gio seaport. From 1941 to 1945, the Japanese fascists built many bunkers, underground tunnels, ammunition bunkers, and mines halfway up Big Mountain along the coast, now in Ward 5, Vung Tau City.
Although the Big Mountain Torpedo was simply a warehouse used to store Japanese military weapons, it was no less elaborate in the construction process. The torpedo was built in 1944 and completed after 4 months. The tunnel was built under a hidden mountain valley, built in an arch shape, inside the tunnel is a reinforced concrete wall 1m thick, 2.7m high. The front of the tunnel door is built of stone 7m high, 20m long. The tunnels are arranged in a U-shape. The tunnel mainly stores mines and torpedo to defend the coast, creating an underwater battlefield blocking the Vung Tau-Can Gio seaport.
