As a Child of the 80s I can confirm we were ninja crazy. This movie and American Ninja, Ninja Turtles and more. I dressed as a ninja for Halloween I don't know how many years. Thanks for posting this blast from the past.

I once found the novelization for this in a public library. Really added depth to Hasegawa. Part of the reason he so readily let the woman go was that even though he was a ninja, he was still descended from a Samurai clan. As such, he hated the idea of taking hostages. However, it was the client's demand and, as such, took precedence over Hasegawa's feelings on the matter. Thus, here with the client dead, Hasegawa had no issue letting her go.

I like the black ninja, he actually had honour and let the woman go, confronted his enemy directly, and didnt use cheap powder in the eyes tactic lol. Pretty cool fight scene though.

I like the portrayal of Hasegawa (played by Sho Kosugi), who is more of an honour-bound warrior than being the stereotypical villain back in the 80s. Also the entire battle choreography was splendid and this is how a battle between ninjas should be. "Enter the Ninja" and all its sequels are epic and definitely worth watching

the idea of two "real ninjas" fighting head on in broad daylight in those "classic Ninja" clothes (especially the all white one, wtf?) is hilarious. But it's the 80's so I can at least forgive the movie; for you though idk how you can think this is how "a battle between ninjas should be."

GI Joe's comics and cartoons came out about a year after this movie. The idea of a rivalry between two Ninja "brothers" from the same clan/school was essentially copied and expanded upon with the creation of Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, and the Arashikage.

Sho Kosugi was amazing in so many early 80's (possibly late 70's too) Ninja movies. His son (I forget his name) went on to do "The Last Dragon", "Red Sonja" and a handful of 80's movies too.

I forgot how cheesy this was but Sho Kusugi is the real deal,, he was the quintessential Ninja movie star in the 80s. His son Kane Kosugi was in Sho's movie 'Revenge of the ninja' and also went on to co star in Ninja 2:Shadow of a tear alongside Scott Adkins.

In the opening scene of this video the white ninja's tsuba has no holes, its just plain. But immediately after it has holes. Then at the end when he beheads him the kashira is missing. They must have had so many prop swords they couldn't keep track.

Yeah, it pales to HK films of this era. It's a shame, Sho Kosugi is a legit martial artist but he worked in US/European films and as such the action was as poor as you'd expect. His weapon and Karate demos prove he had real ability I wish he'd worked with Sammo Hung or Lau Kar Leung in Hong Kong at some point but it never happened, sadly.

Do you mean Franco Nero? What do you want someone to say? He was a well-known Italian western star at the time that they made this movie. He was the original Django and was in Tarantino's version as the man that told Django that he knew how to spell his name. He was also in Camelot. If you are talking about his white ninja outfit, that has already been discussed. Prior to Enter The Ninja, the only other big production in which ninjas had appeared was in the mini-series Shogun, a few months earlier. This is the movie that started the ninja movie craze so I feel that we can cut them slack no matter what they did. Having lived in the Philippines, I find it laughable that they would show a non-filipino working at the Manila airport. Anyone that's ever been there knows that isn't going to happen. However, its Hollywood.

My opinion but Sho Kusugi was always the better ninja and to see him playing a bad ninja wearing black just seems awkward when ive seen him be a black ninja fighing other color ninjas and bad guys, this almost looks like a storm shadow verses a bootleg version of snake eyes, this was a good fight but ive always preferred to see Sho kusugi as a good ninja plus he did play a bad ninja in the Master but even in that tv show he was a better ninja even against lee van clief

An effort to focus their energy before fighting, I think. White ninja uses the first 3 from the nine levels of power. Black ninja uses the first one second. The other two aren't explained in this movie. The crossed arms, if I recall correctly, banishes evil and the last one the black ninja uses represents the cosmic order, I think. Bhutadamara and dharmachakra I think they are called.

Franco Nero played the White Ninja. He was in John Wick 2 but is not in 4. In case you aren't aware, Nero was the original Django and he is the person at the bar in Django Unchained that says that he knows how to spell the name. He will be starring as Django in the upcoming Django Lives!, which will be his third Django movie.
