The southern section of Georgian Bay, near the small boat channel, leads to our first stop on our adventure of this region, Beausoleil Island. This huge island is part of the Georgian Bay Islands National Park and we are pumped to do some hiking! We learn a little about the history of the area and run into the local species of rattlesnake, Massasauga Rattlesnakes 😳
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

Great videos - most appreciated for allowing us to tag along. I have a couple questions if you don’t mind ? 1) where would you recommend to winter over north of Florida. We live in the South West so it’s a trek ($$) to get to the boat. 2) How often - on avg do you anchor out ? 3) How often do pull into a marina to just get water & food supplies?? Keep us informed - we’ll keep smashing the 👍 button. I’m a Capt from the west coast , wife is new to boating - newbies regarding the ICW - Fair winds !!!

Dang you guys! Thank you SOOOO much for plowing the road for us. My wife and I have essentially the same boat. We have an 86 MT Sun Deck. Same single Ford Lehman. We don't intend to do the entire loop, but because of you we now know about the Trent Severn and through watching your videos we are super stoked to make the trip all the way to Lake Ontario! We are docked in Petoskey, MI but my wife is originally from Ontario growing up on the north shore of Lake Huron. Her mother still lives there and we are going to make the trip this summer. Bruce Mines is the name of the town. Anyway we really appreciate all the work you put in on your videos and if you are ever docked in Petoskey we would love to take you out to dinner!

When we navigated these waters 42 years ago there were no docks and few boats. The area you are in you could spend a week and see few boats anchored out in the inland bays. Enjoy seeing the difference and the light is so unique to that area.

I did too and the place has changed so much that I can no longer tell what Island we camped on. Years ago I could still look at the map and figure out where we launched after towing the boat up from St Catherines. We would camp on an island a couple hours run from the marina. We broke an alternator belt and had to use radio to get someone to run the part out to us! I've never left the dock since without every spare imaginable and the tools to fix it. 😅

Looks like a great trip and it seems one of the few areas with snakes. Enjoy the clear water while you up north as youn know the south has brown water.

I learned how to waterski in Hogs Bay, Port McNicol in 1984. I have camped at Chimney Bay many times. Ollie was swimming at my favorite swim spot. It is good to see you enjoying the area that I call home. Welcome to Canada.

Eeeek…rattlesnakes! So glad you saw it in time! We have them here along with a couple other nasty snakes. I always look for them in our yard, driveway and the street. I loved Ollie sliding in for the rocks…😂…she sure has a strong jaw! Your hike was beautiful and your docking spot was so nice and peaceful! Great video!

That was quite a hike. Seeing that rattler had to get the BP up! I'm from Ohio and that species of rattler is found there as well, but due to habitat loss and other reasons, they are an endangered species and rarely seen any longer in the areas that they were known to inhabit.

The good part of taking that inside channel is that there are so many sheltered bays to just drop the bow anchor then back towards the shore watching your depth sounder and tie off to a fallen tree or big rock, whatever, take a swim cook a meal sip some wine, hunker down for the night etc.. This is especially desirable if weather is iffy.

Steveinsawlog here. My place looks out at the entire Western shore of Beausoleil Island. I am so pleased to see how much you enjoyed your first day on the Bay. The smooth granite rocks you trekked over on your walk were exposed when the glaciers from the Ice Age receded, scraping away all of the soil. I am sure you know by now that Beausoleil is french for "Good Sun" which you certainly experienced in this video.

It is a big change, provisioning on a boat compared to provisioning on land haha. I think on average we go to the store every two weeks. Meat isn't that difficult to keep on board, especially if you have a deep freezer like we did. Veggies were a bit hard to keep because they do go bad quickly. We don't really eat meat so that's the only reason why we didn't have any on board. We put everything that we could in the fridge, because it lasted longer, but unfortunately our fridge was tiny haha.

Having lived on Georgian Bay, now 73 years, it is nice to revisit the places where we camped fished and explored , only with no effort, or expenses. The sounds of loons at 3am under a moon lit sky, with the sound the water lapping at your hull, are the just some of the sounds of Georgian Bay. Just a note.... it is correctly named Georgian Bay, not The Georgian Bay. Kind Regards. A local .

I don’t think it was a rattler, probably a brown snake. They are big and look rattlerish but not poisonous. My wife and I spend most of our summer time in Frying Pan bay and hiking those trails. We go up the the small craft channel too and I am sure you enjoyed your trip up there too.
