Enterprise E Reveal Shot (Star Trek First Contact/Nemesis style)

I've been hit with massive Star Trek nostalgia lately ! Wanted to make a reveal shot of the Enterprise E that could fit in First Contact or Nemesis. Happy 1701 day !

But I need to find some motivation to do them, I never did tutorials before, and I want them to be of decent quality with good rythm, and not a 20min+ video of just the same screencapture with my audio in the background 😅 For 2024 I really want to finally make that kind of educational content, pinky promess ! In the meantime, there are plenty of ressources on KZbin to do the same kind of visualizer as I did !

You would have thought there would have still been some in service at the time of Picard Season 3. There were plenty of Excelsior Class ships still in service on DS9. Those things were in service for a long time.

It feels like Star Trek, the atmosphere is pretty much spot on. The angles, lighting, ship and music are spot on for that mid 90s TNG film era. The regal notes of the Jerry Goldsmith version of the Star Trek theme compliment the elegant, graceful lines of the Sovereign class Enterprise like a good wine compliments fine cheese. Honestly, this is really good. The atmosphere is brilliant. The Sovereign class Enterprise is my favourite because she's so beautiful. Such a gorgeous ship deserved more screen time. Also, happy 17/01

Stunning, I genuinely thought this was taken from the film on the first play. Is higher quality than any of the FX shots in the Kelvin shows and is much more successful establishing scale than the recent films too.

I remember when the trailer for First Contact came out. During the early days of the internet, it was tough to get it downloaded. I kept studying and rewinding all the shots of the 1701-E while I was still downloading the file. The notion of a new Enterprise was incredible at the time. Probably took me more than 30 minutes to download. I'm pretty sure I had a 56K modem at the time :P

Just a fun fact that you reminded me of: Back in the day of the 56K modems, I used to be downloading SG-1 episodes. Each was compressed down to 20 MB (yup, I had to watch from a couple of meters to at least blend some of the compression squares) and it took over 2 hours of continuous "high-speed", i.e. about 4 to 5 kBps, download. And yes, the concept of a new Enterprise was mind-boggling. And I still consider the Sovereign to be one of the most beautiful ships ever designed.

When I served on board the E , food replicators didn’t exist back then so we had to load tons of food before leaving earth. Bananas were hanging on the ceiling of the deck and piles of Heinz baked beans obstructed the corridors . I remember ounce a violent explosion started a fire in the french cheese hold after some high g manouvers

What a gorgeous ship!!! Feels like the Ent-E or her sister ships don't get enough screen time they deserve. And maybe it's me but seems like the Ent-E doesn't get as much love as the Ent-D. At least not the same way. I get it, Ent-D was at the beginning of a wonderful series at everything else that happened before its destruction (done really dirty. Good job Rick Berman, you idiot). Crew forming lifelong friendships and so on the Ent-D. I know they loved the Ent-E, but not in the same way as the Ent-D. It's like what Scotty said in the S6, E4 Relics, "it's like the first time you fall in love. You'll never love a woman quite like that again".

It's telling the number of fan videos about the TNG/DS9 era of spacecraft get made the most. Something about the newer shows doesn't look quite right, like they were described what a Star Trek spaceship looks like, but didn't take the time to think on what each little glowing bit does (like putting the red sublight engines or launch bays behind nacelles.) Or whatever the hell DIS did in Season 3 with futureFleet.

I can never quite understand the true size of these ships. By many reports, they are absolutely enormous: yet I constantly see standing-room-only shuttles appear oversized in proximity to the enterprise and other vessels, making me very uncertain as to the actual relative scales.

@@stargazestudios I didn't either until last year lol. The Nemesis version added 6 Phaser Strips to the pylons and secondary hull. It also had 5 additional Torpedo tubes. The proportions were changed somewhat. The pylons were made taller. The hull decals were more detailed and less smooth. If I had to guess, after Insurrection, they figured out just how vulnerable the Enterprise-E was from the aft quarter and refitted accordingly lol. Even with these Tactical upgrades it was no match for the Reman Warbird Scimitar lol.

I sort of agree that we should have seen the E in the Picard series at some point but at the same time it was right that they used the D. It was more fitting to have them on the D. If fans shout loud enough we might get the E back.

The planet is 3 spheres (atmosphere, clouds and ground), and I angled a Directional Light. There are plenty of tutorials available to make one ! I rendered it once and just placed it as a plane far away from the camera, no need to render it every frame.
