How is this guy not at least reached DOOM-like respect yet? Busdriver's been at the forefront of avant garde hip hop since temporary places in 2002, (or was it 1999?). Saw him 7 years ago, it was spectacular. His guest spot on the last modeselektor album was genius, (pretentious friends). He's obviously skilled and actually pulls everything off live, unlike Aesop Rock, who couldn't get through a single song without leaving out the best bits for the sake of breathing. If anyone has heard someone pull off a faster flow than "imaginary places" live, please let me know. I just don't get it. Is he too weird? He has such an amazing flow, great hooks and chorus'. He can sing. Entirely distinctive voice. seems like more people knew about him 7 years ago than they do now. I've been on a Kendrick Lamar kick, but his new vid "for free (interlude)" is further out there conceptually than anything Busdriver's done...... I come and go to hip hop as I hear artists doing shit I like.

+Patrick Chole Trust me he's far beyond that respect. Not even on the rap spectrum. Perhaps the greatest thinker to have graced a recording. To the people that have heard his music in it's entirety, he is the most complex artist. Kendrick is not even close to some of the records busdriver produces on a daily basis. It can't even compare to some of the excogitational masterpieces he has created. I wouldn't even put him in the same breadth as busdriver. Actually he has gotten more complex. The other day I listened to a song where he accurately related the osmosis and anaerobic cellular microcosmic processes to political proceedings, and then subsequently described a lifeform re disclosing its mechanisms into another a physical being. He then related the philisophical findings to his daily life. Trust me. Some of his undisclosed music hasn't been released due to the fact that only mathematicians and greek translators can underrstand his music. It's literally uncomprehensible and almost alien like. He has even created his own language in which he raps an entire album. The man is simply a genius.

Imo Busdriver is weirder than Aesop Rock. It seems like the internet doesn't show that much recognition for him, but maybe the underground scene, particularly in LA does have great respect for him. But I don't live in Cali so I'm not sure.

I personally think some humans reach a level of artistic enlightenment where the fame you gather from other humans is not important and you are doing art purely for the beings in other dimensions which exist simultaneously to ours. Only people with a certain level of skill in interpreting works of art can understand the messages and symbols present in art at this level. The artists involved are channelling higher dimensions and not even fully responsible for what they are producing. Some of the artists that come to mind are John Frusciante, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Aphex twin, Aesop rock, Syd barret. Artists who spend years on their craft will usually reach this level, but many choose to instead pursue goals only present in the human world. Humans seem to have gone backwards in terms of art since the avante-garde era, but the level of appreciation you get in this world isn't important as long as you create the art that you should be creating.
