Heath ledger portrayed Joker: sharp, witty, mastermind, villain archetype (Comic book fiction/action based). Joaquin Phoenix portrayed Arthur Fleck: broken, abandoned, abused, mentally ill archetype (Tragedy/Catharsis). Both are phenomenal in their own way

this movie will inspire poor criminal minded teens/losers to commit horrific crimes! This movie will make anti social elements in the society blame the rich/successful people for their condition and they will try to seek revenge. This violent and repulsive movie should be banned from being screened. BTW Joaquin Phoenix is a fucking anti social person as well. He deserves to be in lockup/mental hospital.

The King of Numbers but it does raise awareness about mental health to an extent because speaking about mental problems is almost like a taboo in our society. If you have a mental illness everyone expects you to act like you don’t have one, and if you can never speak about it to friends or loved ones and only a therapist how are people who can’t afford a therapist supposed to improve? The movie sheds light on many problems that aren’t spoken about often and that’s why I love it; it’s thought provoking and controversial. It’s not just another safe origin story about a mindless villain who wants to cause chaos for no good reason.

I've always disliked the joker exactly because i felt his persona was just empty, he was just chaos. This movie is so superior in all it's aspects that it transcends the character's universe. What a great movie really.

If this is what you think, you should go back and watch Dark Knight. There's a message behind the movie about how hypocritical everybody really is. The Joker proved that to us.

If you still feel like his persona was just empty, and he was just chaos, you should really do some real research on the joker. You just now are grasping the concept of the joker. It’s not that he was ever JUST a chaos obsessed clown. Just know he was never an empty shell of a character.

Well, Joaquin is the beginning of the story, and Heath is the aftermath. So I can say, you like Joaquin's cuz it is more of a progressive character arc. But Heath portrayed a well-defined and already established Clown Prince of Crime. So I think comparing them is a bit of uncalled for, they have the same character, but portraying two different arcs.
