Next video I expect to go over how to revise your initial plot web before and during your campaigns. Let me know what else you want to see. Also if you want control over future channel content, free D&D homebrew, and more, heading over to my Patreon. If you want the most control over when and what videos get made, follow this link: patreon.com/EntertheDungeon

Thank sounds most interesting. Did you end up making the video?

I always really appreciate when dms not only walk through their creative process but also go into the technical side of how they write down and organize those ideas. So thanks for this video and the previous one. Both were very useful and got me to subscribe.

while i was part of the minority that disliked you putting Brendon in the thumbnail of the last video i have to admit you had a point, 100k+ to now just over 10K and both videos are equally compelling and great, the way i see it do what you gotta do to get your content out there and ignore the hate until you have built your core audience then make things your own. Its not like you baited us in with clips or plot points from D20 or Crit Role like some of these other guys have making the video about those people, its all your content its just how you are advertising it.

Thank you! As someone who is 37 sessions and a year into DMing a curse of strahd campaign, this video looks like it will be really educational! Great stuff you've made! Probably some of the most helpful material I've ever come across.

Amazingly helpful video! One of the few DnD content that actually teaches you something by working out an example. One suggestion: it would be amazing if you combined the plot web series with your three-arc-structure video in the future.

I love that the tips you gave work so well that i was so invested in the narrative you were creating. This defenetly hyped me up to play dnd.

Attempting to DM a particular campaign for the second time (first time fell apart bc of life stuff) and as I was in the middle of making a mindmap I stumbled on your videos! What lovely serendipity. This is exactly how my brain works when planning! soooooo helpful in solidifying my process going forward.

"As soon as the game stops you all crack open some beers" is totally not the correct sequence of events in our games :D. But in all seriousness great video.

This little series on how to organize the narrative structure organically and in a way that honors the players has done so much for me. Thank you. My question now is, do you think this is possible to do in a 1 shot and if so, how do you identify which nodes to hit?

I love your process of making all these in-story connections. It's amazing to see it come to life. I'm rather sad for Cayden though, as it seems he has the worst of family which rather conflicts with the theme of family being more important than power. I am also uncertain if the character himself would consider his parents to be so terrible. His mother truly isn't a paragon of virtue, but her sin is that of love, passion, and worship. She was not a faithful wife, but had the courage to follow her heart. Of course it isn't just that she eventually loved Cayden better than his sister, but sometimes these things happen and so long as she provided for both children and took care of them, she wasn't the worst mother one could have (at least I tend to think of worst mothers as those who beat and otherwise abuse their children). Similarly, is Onin truly so bad? He is a demigod, and the affair with Cayden's mother could have simply been a night of carnal pleasure for him and nothing more. He might not even be aware that he has a son from that temporary liason. It is also possible that Cayden's mother didn't exactly advertise that she was already married when she met Onin. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would probably check with the player of Cayden's character whether or not they're fine with the assumptions made about their parents, and would work with their answer because it's their family after all and their perception of their parents should therefore matter. I feel that this could possibly be a sensitive issue. I probably wouldn't take it kindly myself if a DM tried to tell me that my character had terrible parents without checking with me first if my character felt that way about them.

When you talked about maybe the main villian and Artis (new pc) had same motivation. My first thought was that the villain had grown up while new pc was attive and seen the good, but also seen the affect when the boggy man disadperet and now the villain is trying to become that fear. Or the villian was one of the people who got scared and is now out to get so much power that he or she never has to feel fear agian

I was honestly wondering about that issue in the last video: What if someone died? It had me thinking of a previous campaign I had played in where it seemed like when some characters died, any of their issues just disappeared from the world. Like their life and their actions never really meant a thing. Even if my character had died, I would like to think that what they did and what they had failed to do has some ongoing part in shaping the world for the rest of the party and their replacement. That their life and their death kind of mattered. I wasn't even one of the ones who died that campaign; but I could kind of get that feeling from the other characters' concerns fading away as well.

I think people were asking what software you used not because we are looking for “bells and whistles,” but because it was sort of suggested that you put the points in to the word processor and then used a program to spit out the plot map, sort of how word clouds are generated. The concern I had was that I wouldn’t know how to best situate the dots. I think people were confused how the plot was actually generated because you skipped over that part in the video.

There's no such program, he did it manually. There are programs to help with easily creating shapes, lines, and text but you could even use MS Paint. There's probably one such program that keeps the lines between nodes connected while you move them around, making it easier to see what they are connected to as you situate them, but there's probably no automatic "text-to-map" tool. EDIT: I found a software called Obsidian that functions like an improved Google Docs and everything you write in it can be made as links that you can connect to each other and then it automatically spits out a web!

But... this particular character has a compelling explanation/excuse. The mask has been put on him against his will and it is sapping his power away. Under those circumstances, it is plausible that he had indeed killed a lot of creatures before his power was so severely diminished. I don't see a problem there, and would find that character rather interesting...

I would like to see, how to use this plot web to actualy make and run a campaing. How do you organice the material to run a campaing.
@DarrylCross Жыл бұрын
@19:30 - Of course, you could steal a plot thread from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy here. IIRC it was in the third book (though I could be wrong; been at least a decade since I've read them last) where Arthur Dent meets an entity that has a burning hatred for him. Somehow this being had been re-incarnated time and time again, only to have Arthur somehow connected with its death. After many cycles of reincarnation and death, it started to remember him. If Artem had lived so many centuries, he could have ended up killing the same soul over and over again, and every time it comes back it only hates him more and more. Of course, it's not like reincarnations will pop up every other day, but happens over decades and centuries; the next one is due. There is someone out there in the world who Artem doesn't recognize (he would just be some guy), but has a burning passion to see him die in horrific agony. Of course, he's not stupid about it; he's quite cautious and willing to bide his time. He has a healthy fear of Artem as well, after so many deaths at his hands. Perhaps this soul has also ended up in a life to its liking, and doesn't want to lose it - but struggles to get over its obsession with revenge. (Possibly can be redeemed by the party, or killed and thrown back into the cycle of vengeance as the party sees fit.)
