i was not what ud call a "dog person" ...but 2 miniature daschounds later, a 2 yr old rescue that my wife twisted my arm to get, & a little later a 3mth old puppy that my mom couldnt keep due to her asthma... & suddenly im a "proud father" to 2 beautiful fur babys... its those eyes... those cute, but mischievous, eyes... as someone else here already commented, "a gift from god" & i agree!

I totally agree! My husband would never had a miniature dachshund.....always big farm/ranch dogs....but he totally loves Gretchen and our newest rescue, Charlize. They are so devoted, funny and utterly destructive....but we love them!

Shannon Lock Shannon, I adore her..and I am not 100% sure, but I can sort of trust her now....Before I would have to leave her in a crate when I left or there would be a hole in the furniture, but lately, she has refrained from destroying my stuff....although I think I may forever have to keep my shoes on the table. Two seconds and they are in her bed and she is nibbling on them!

Oh Evelyn, I am so sorry. You must have been a wonderful owner to keep your little dog for 16 years! Gretchen has mellowed out a lot since I posted this video - she had been trapped in a kennel most her life before I got her and really exploded once given some freedom. I don't know what I would do without her. She is such a sweetheart! Anyway, thank you for watching and being such a good owner to your little doxie.

Now that Gretchen is a tad older, and less destructive, I love her just as much as before....Dachshunds are such comediennes! (I don't care how old they are....) We just "rescued" another young one....whose owners had put her on Xanax for too much energy! Gretchen watches her like she's crazy....yet she was there a few years ago too! So funny!

We raised five of them over the past 30 years. We have ten acres in the country. A doggie paradise complete with creeks, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, possums, raccoons and other assorted dachshund toys. There all gone now, but never to be forgotten.

I had a dachshund for 12 yrs,she was a character. She was a rescue,we were told (keep her away from water, she panicked in water,...ha!,. First time I took her to our local park she leapt in and chased the local ducks! Miss her!

Christi Kerr I do love her antics...except things like, uh, how do I fix the hole in my new curtains? Seriously, she jumped on a chair and chewed a hole. I keep thinking I need to buy some sort of patch and cut it in the shape of something to make it look like I wanted it there. Western motiff? Yes, I do love her...but she is sort of expensive in the repair department.

I LOVE IT!!!! This is just like my Doxie's Chelsea and Taffy!!!! EXACTLY, from running amok, to eating poo, tearing up paper towel rolls, to bickering with the older puppies!! Not really old, but as a 6 month old she destroyed EVERYTHING. As a three and a half year old, she is perfect. (I can even leave my shoes on the floor) She has jus mellowed out. However, we just got another rescue dachshund...who is a whole different type of dog! I love them both though.

Alanna Light yes I agree they are extremely sweet, funnie,and I will give both my shorthaireds were very easy to train. Even my mini who was abused and rescued when he was 4 years old(he lived to the ripe old age 17 ). But I'am having a very difficult time with Franklin my long haired. Oh don't get me wrong I love the stuffing out of him, hr just doesn't seem to want to listen to me or follow my basic commands to or request. Oh dear God I love these little guys. Our dog Donna died in 1998 she was part coyote . She was very smart and very maternal. We were devastated she was a very good friend for many years. A few months after she was gone I was visiting someone and they had just gotten a red female long hair mini. She was so cute and sweet. She looked like a bit of a centepede running around because you couldnt see her legs because of the long hair you couldnt see her legs. She could just jump straight up and do a flip in mid air and land perfectly on her hind legs like a circus dog. I was amazed she could do this and on top of that she wasnt even trained to do this . This little dog brought back memories of Dachshunds from my childhood so my wife and I found some pups for sale and we got our little rascal mini weiner and named him Ziggy. We loved this wonderful little sausage pup like he was one of our children. For 16 years he was my best buddy until he passed away. It broke my heart to say good bye . It still seems he is around now and again and I send out love to him. Watching a weinerdog run is a joy .

This brought back memories of my dachshund who went to the Rainbow Bridge on New Years Eve, 2015. He wasn't 10 years old yet, but he had done everything your little Gretchen has done. Be aware! dachshunds do this their entire life!!

I was heartbroken. My husband found Gretchen as a replacement...and although you can never replace a pet you adore, Gretchen certainly distracted me from my grief. Had a horrible experience. There was a puppy in a pet shop going crazy for quite some time. I bought him to get him out of the situation of being confined. I gave him to a rescue thinking he would be in a better situation but they placed him in a terrible home. I begged for him back. No luck!i know there are some good ones but I’m still bitter.

I baby-sat one of these for about 2 - 3 weeks a while back , he drove me nuts with his mischief but I miss the little bugger and so does my shepherd who fell in love with the little guy. Except for the remote controls walking off , that was a bit naughty as my other 2 dogs never destroy a thing and heres a pint sized ball of constant mischief that had no trouble jumping up onto the bed which rather amazed me he could even do it in the 1 st place . they certainly keep you on your toes.

Lucy is an Australian Shepherd (12 years young) and the three of them have so much fun together. For years only had Lucy and now I can't remember what it is like to have only one!

Alanna Light, I just love your little Gretchen. my Grandmother had these dogs and they were so mean. I had no idea how, much joy they can bring until, I started dating and married a man with one. They have the most wonderful personalities. I also have a, Yorkie. I want a black and tan soon.

I LOVE GRETCHEN!!! I had a black and tan named Digby! I miss him so much. Dachshunds are just the best!!!!!! Gretchen looks and acts just like my baby Digs. Thanks for such a wonderful video!!!!!!!!

WOW 😳😄👍 That precious face at the end, just too cute. And I thought our new puppy we recently got this past August (he's 7 months old now) was a holy terror. We thought maybe we made a mistake getting a puppy at our age because I don't remember puppies being this difficult. We're 65 & 70. Our little guy is a Toy Fox Terrier and he was into everything your precious little girl was into & yes it took what seemed like forever to get him to stop eating poop 😝. We named him Harley (after the motorcycle). He's been a handful. ❤
