My prediction: Because of how Professor Hardwood saying “yes yes” a lot like Tom Nook and how MissingNo. was trying to reveal Professor Hardwood was actually Tom Nook. Professor Hardwood also talks about villagers not requiring plots of land anymore in the first episode, as if it was a new step for Nook Inc. Tom Nook probably went crazy after that and then started forcing them to fight and them assuming the role of professor.
