As a former cop from a big city, I have a little advice for these cops. Don't argue with the knuckleheads. Give them an order, and if they don't comply, give them consequences. Engaging them in a back and forth just gives them opportunity to make terrible things happen. If you do take the time to speak at length with them, it should be coming from you, and not a back and forth. One thing I used to do is ask them to look around and tell me what they see. When they got done, I'd say, no. This is my office. What I say goes. Listen to me and we can conclude our business. Continue what you're doing and you go to jail today. Then end it. Don't exchange insults. Don't answer "why" questions. Everything can be explained in a booking room, and again in a court room. At scene is not the place.
@gastongeneral6861Ай бұрын
100% yes. And as you say, that's safer for all concerned. "Engaging them in a back and forth just gives them opportunity to make terrible things happen. "
@angelvomit777Ай бұрын
I noticed the argumentative back and forth too. I’m a teacher and the conversation between the cop and the boyfriend was a classic power struggle. When you’re in a professional role engaging with people who are unreasonable, incorrect, and not held to the same standard of behavior as you, it’s literally of no benefit to yourself or the situation to humor their behavior. Cop should’ve walked off after giving his answer. He stayed to fan flames essentially, just because he could. I learned when you’re in a position of authority that as soon as you started going back and forth with the people you have authority over, you lost. I know he didn’t have to tell the boyfriend why she was arrested, but the attitude coming off the boyfriend ramped up even more as soon as the cop started engaging him. If he didn’t want to answer questions or engage further with the boyfriend, he should’ve just gave his orders and walked off like you said. I feel like the officer was almost enjoying this argument and purposefully riling the boyfriend up after a point.
@BailarkАй бұрын
@@angelvomit777 I remember when vest cams were first suggested as a solution to curb violence by officers. Before they were even deployed I said, they would not work. There is a huge misunderstanding on what a public servant is and who they answer to. Police officers or sheriff deputies work for a specific governmental agency and are answerable to a chief or a sheriff, not the public. The chief generally reports to a mayor. Mayors and sheriffs are elected, and as such they are answerable to the populace. But not to individual citizens. No elected public servant is answerable to a citizen. These cops ignored the traffic violations, ignored a possible dui investigation, falsely arrested the woman on a secondary charge with no primary, then goes hands on again with the bf when he should be gone or on the traffic stop. I'll leave the Florida statute below. Being disagreeable is not a crime, it doesn't fit disorderly. This was bad policing. State of Florida, Disorderly Conduct, or Statute 877.03, is defined as someone committing an act that corrupts public morals, outrages public decency, disturbs the peace and quiet of others, starts a fight, or acts in a way that breaches the peace.
