Las actrices Itziar Miranda, Paula Usero y Carol Rovira nos hablan de la historia de Luisita y Amelia: cómo se prepararon para sus respectivos, cuál ha sido la recepción del público, si sienten alguna clase de responsabilidad...

For english speakers, I'm not fluent in spanish or english but I tried my best to translate the interview because it's really amazing. Each day I love this story and the cast even more. So I hope it helps :) 1- What did you think when you knew they were going to tell the story of Amelia and Luisita? Paula: She says she was caught by surprise (in a good way) bc she wanted to tell this story with love and respect about a time she didn't live (and people suffered a lot) and only knew through some people experience's. She started to investigate about it bc she wanted to tell this story in a beautiful way. Itziar: We have to have a lot of respect for this story bc is a very sensitive subject. And we can't judge these characters (Marcelino and Manolita). We need to put ourselves in their shoes and don't judge (she later says that we cant judge these characters with the mentality we have now, we have to understand the time they were living in). It's a matter of reeducate ourselves about equality and diversity nowadays bc we are far away from there. Carol: Many people can identify with these differents opinions (perspectives). Not only with Luisita and Amelia but also with the mother, neighbor, the grandfather, etc. And the people who hadn't gone through this or don't know any gay person also have curiosity. And this is what is beautiful about this story. Paula: Amelia and Luisita are thousands of women. They represent a community, specially the ones who were silenced and had to hide their feelings for a very long time. 2 - What internals and externals conflicts arise when Luisita's orientation is revealed? Carol: Amelia falls for Luisita first because she is her friend and she shares a lot with her and there's a lot of affection, love starts to grow more and more and without noticing you are in love. They were both going through these phases. There's fear, rejection and distance on Amelia's side bc she doesn't want Luisita to suffer. Until Luisita makes the first move and that moment is a turning point and they decide to fight for this love. Itziar: She (Manolita) understands that she can be in love with a woman but she worries about her daughter going to prison bc homosexuality was illegal. She doesn't want her daughter to suffer, she wants her kids to have a "normal" life. 3 - About the storyline of Amelia and Luisita going to prison, what the audience would think about this reality of that time? In what ways this could help? Paula: To normalize and give support to all these people who have been repressed. Bc nowadays if you see two guys kissing on the streets you give a weird look or it's even more weird if you see two girls.This is terrible but it happens. Itziar: It seems like a lie but we are talking about a telenovela who is set on the year of 1976 and is incredible the similarities it has with nowadays. She then tells a story that someone told her on twitter about a conversation this person heard on the bus. Two women were talking and one of them says she doesn't know how to tell her mother she is a lesbian. And the other says that her mother should watch Amar es Para Siempre bc it would help her understand. With Marcelino and Manolita reactions too. And Itziar is like "really?" We are not talking about a show who is set nowadays but in 1976. With conflicts that our parents and grandparents lived. Paula: I have a friend that went abroad to study, met a girl, they fell in love and live together now i Cadiz. My friend is a fan of the show, watches everyday. The mother of her girlfriend locked her up at home so they couldn't see each other. My friend says "if some day her mother could watch the show she would understand and knows how much her daughter is suffering bc of rejection". To have someone say that about your work, that she would understand bc this story is being told with respect and in a beautiful way is very deep. 4 - Do you have any story from a fan who have thanked you for the lgbt representation in the show? Itziar: An elderly woman met me on the streets and told me she lived her whole life with her friend but of course it wasn't her friend it was her wife and she never said to anyone. "How lucky were Luisita and Amelia that were able to tell you" she said. In reality Luisita and Amelia were the exception in that time by telling the family bc it wasn't the reality of majority. Carol: I receive messages from young women that tell me "thanks for telling this story bc I watch with my mom and the day I tell her I'm a lesbian she will understand better" Itziar: There are also messages from people in South America. Also some places in Mexico, for example, that look like Spain in the 70's. I'm not saying that Spain is more developed emotionally and intellectually bc we are not but it's true that is not the same reality. 5 - The audience's reaction has changed in comparison with the couple Ana and Teresa? Itziar: I believe the audience showed us that we haven't changed that much (as a society). Bc the reactions we are getting are the same from that time. Young people telling us "I wish my mom would watch the show to see how Manolita understands the homosexuality". And this is a huge problem. In almost ten years we didn't have a real change, to assimilate in a natural way that your son is gay. 6 - What do you think about the lgbt representation in Spanish shows? Itziar: I believe that television reflects the society. In the day we have trans, gays, lesbians storylines without the conflicts about their sexual orientation, without having to give explanations about their partners, in this day we will have a healthier society. Paula: That it wouldn't be a surprise to have a person who is homosexual. Carol: Or labels. When we read something like "the lesbian couple". Why we have to use this adjective? Itziar: We don't say "the heterosexual couple" with Manolita and Marcelino so why do we have to say this about Amelia and Luisita? The right way to say is "the couple Amelia and Luisita" and "the couple Manolita and Marcelino". In this day we will have moved forward a little bit.

El día que no tengamos que poner adjetivos sobre la sexualidad, nuestra sociedad estará preparada para dar otro paso más. Em 1970 tinha13 anos e já sabia da minha homosexualidade. Sempre estive na luta pela "naturalidade" do amor, seja como for. Avançamos mas não muito. Por essa razão agradeço o empenho e carinho de vcs em fazer essa história acontecer. Obrigada. Estamos vivendo um momento muito tenso no Brasil com um presidente homofóbico, racista e machista. Lo miro la serie desde brasil soy hetero pero me da mucha rabia que personas la traten como personas enferma, que cada un viva como quiere todos tiene derecho de amar a quien quiere independente de lo sexo, para que violencia, espancamentos todos tiene derecho de ser felices con quien quieres, tengo rabia de algunos heteros que no entiende esto, todos tenemos que tener derechos iguales. Me encanta esta entrevista yo pienso que en aquella época era un poco prohibido pero el amor entre mujeres siempre a existido no sé porqué se tiene que mirar tan mal el amor entre dos personas del mismo seso y el amos no entiende de seso son las mentes de las gente las que se montan una película sobre el amor que piensan que solo puede existir en tres hambre y mujer pero porque si en esta vida lo bonito es quererse y amarse sin que nadie te diga a quien tienes que amar si el amor entre dos personas del mismo seso puede ser más bonito y más sincero que incluso entre hombre y mujer dejemos ya las mentes del pasado y vivamos con libertad las cosas del presente y amémonos todos y hagámoslo con plena libertad y cada cual con la persona que ama y con la que sea feliz

No sé qué libros has visto tú. Yo soy profesora de primaria y nunca he visto un libro con esos contenidos. Lo máximo que he visto es comentar que existen diferentes tipos de familias y que hay que respetar a las personas de cualquier orientación. Nunca se impone esto. Por cierto no se puede imponer ninguna orientación sexual. Ni siquiera con terapia de reconversión (como se hace con homosexuales), así que es imposible que con un libro se fomente la homosexualidad

Yo creo que exageran , porque representa que ya hay monarquía , por lo tanto ser gay o lesbiana ya no era tan peligroso como lo pintan !!me encanta la serie , pero veo cosas que en esos años ya no corresponden y Marcelino demasiado inocente ,ya se que es televisión ,es mi opinión !!!
