Thanks Mike, I have a few request videos to put up this week so I'll be working on those. I'll not get a project video but will provide videos showing the elements of a project. I've still to crack this editing thing but that's because I won't sit down to learn it, despite buying good software. I noticed you're all very quick to jump in when you smell money but, thankfully, my new religion, which I invented 10 seconds ago, doesn't allow me to pay out on bets so I'm sure you will all respect that. Alan Simpson LOL.. Tragically, I'm already working on the design for my mirror because I really don't have a clue how to go about this. I can turn a dish and a stick but getting them to go together nicely is my problem. Is 'Rustic' still in? Like, VERY bloody rustic. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Alan Simpson Hi Alan, excellent, I am looking forward to seeing what you produce. How do we define a hand mirror? Is it a mirror on a stick or a mirror you can hold in your hand like a little fold-over make-up mirror? I looked at images for both and at the kits for the small, compact, mirrors and have decided that the classic mirror on a stick is what they want because, when I looked at the little kits for compact mirrors they only required you to turn two flattish discs and stick them on the kit. Lovely little project but not requiring as much skill as the other traditional mirror. Maybe someone will make a compact from scratch but I couldn't do the hinge thing. Best part of this is all the research time we can allow ourselves instead of digging in the garden. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Thanks Gordon, there was a lot of preparation and measuring in this...a LOT of measuring and a lot of getting the measurements wrong. I had difficulty cutting the channel in the lid for the balls to sit in because, however I measured it, the top dead centre of the balls seemed farther towards the edge of the lid than my measurements were telling me they should be, however, I think I wasn't giving enough consideration to the width of the ball between the top and equator to allow it to seat properly. In the end I did the try-and-fit method and it worked fine. That was a great demo yesterday, I really enjoyed it. Best Wishes, Brendan.

BMac Woodturning Quite a face mask there, Brendan! Yes measurments are fiddly things that change when you're not looking. I think your lid would have benifitted from one of those rare earth magnets burried in the centre ot the wood. Although it fits perfect as it is.

Gordon Millar Rare earth magnets...that's a brilliant idea! I'll never have to worry about a tenon again.... just the weight of the huge magnets I'll need to use. You've actually solved another problem for me as well because I had to, somehow, connect two pieces of a broken chess set for my aunt. Those really tiny magnets would do the job. Thank you Gordon. I had the great privilege to have been with Brendan today at the monthly meeting of our wood turning guild when it was announced he was the winner. The competition was stiff with several amazing entries but Brendan's had that little extra bit of class which saw him through as the winner. The principal judge was a visiting demonstrator who gave us a wonderful afternoon and he is also a design teacher so it was his expert eye which decided Brendan's piece was the winner. The only downside is that I predicted Brendan would win and laid on a bet of £10 at odds of five to one but he is now refusing to pay out:-). I'll have to send a couple of heavies round. Well deserved first place in my book sir. What you have done , is to encourage me to try to enter more of the competition's at the little club that I attend. I have some other stuff to clear up after spending time sick and then on this piece so, after those jobs are done, I'll fire up the videos. Thanks Mark, I cut the balls on the lathe using a template to size them, it's easier than you'd think, just takes a little time to sneak down to size but there's always 80 grit sandpaper. I'm going to do a video next week of how I make them. Best Wishes, Brendan.
