Ecology part 1 Ecology definition . Oikos=home/place to live in + logos=to study . Scientific study of living organisms of their relationship with each other and their environment . Deals with ways in which organisms are moulded by environment . Organisms are shaped by environment= adaptation, organisms use environment for resources and mineral cycling, thus 2 uses of environment . Environment is defined as 'sun total of living, non living components ; influences and events surrounding an organism. . Abiotic = non living= energy, radiation, temperature and heart flow, water, fire, gravity, topography, geological substratum. . Biotic =green, non green plants =mould, heterotrophs, parasites, animals, man, symbiote . Symbiotic = no nuksaan to host; parasites = harmful to hosts Levels of organization in ecology . 6 levels . Individual, population, Community, ecosystem, biome, biosphere Individual . Living being . Ability to function independently . Pent /bacterium /fungi etc . Body made of organs, organelles, other parts that work together to perform various processes of life Population . Group of organisms . Usually of same species . Occupy well defined area .
