We need a counter of some kind to keep all if these videos straight so we don't end up watching a bunch again, halfway thru before realizing we've seen it. I'd rather watch them all once first. This is great content. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Light Bulb Moment: I MUST be a geologist at heart, as I can never look at places and not see a blizzard of natural & unnatural hazards! 😉😉 I always wondered why everyone else couldn't see them, too! I think I'm going to enjoy this class, Dr. Nat!

I really enjoyed this video. I have never had a formal geology class and have always been confused by some of the terminology. This really helps it make sense!

I am thinking about majoring in environmental geology and is wondering what advice you have for me and others
@DrNat133 жыл бұрын
I think it is important to study at a college or university with a good geology program, but also a school you enjoy being at. (Think about if you want to be at a large school or a smaller one, urban or rural, etc.) If you enjoy where you are, you will do better in your studies. Stay informed about new developments in the science. A great way to do this is to join a professional society like the Geological Society of America, which also offers mentoring programs, will keep you informed of internships and other opportunities, and annual meetings provide you a chance to meet other geologists and hear about current research.

Hi There Dr.Nat.Interesting videos you have.I have a question about the Geology sector.What Careers should I pursue or course should I take if you are more of a physical type,like Biology and love planetary Science/Geology/Space. I would love to know what you think. Cr.

There are lots of different career paths for those who study geology. I used to work as a field geologist for a government agency, which I really enjoyed because it kept me working outside a lot. I also worked for a mining company, which I enjoyed. Right now, that's actually a good career to pursue, because the conversion to green energy requires a lot of different commodities. There are many other paths you can follow when studying geology-- some people specialise in earthquakes, or volcanoes, or fossils, etc. If you watch my video "Physical Geology- Introduction Vol. 1 there is a list of some of the many career paths geologists can follow. Thank you for watching and good luck!

@@DrNat13 Hello There. Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate all the information and the details,plus not to mention the paths that you have taken being a Geologist which is interesting.I understand that Geology is a massive branch that has many specialties and Field Geology definitely does seem the best. Great,I will look through that video. The huge boulder video that looked like it was randomly placed in the middle of a forest was great,its amazing how hundreds and thousands of years ago it was carried by the glaciers when the were receding.I imagine all the time when thinking Geology about what the huge boulders Rocks on Mars are made from and just what it would be like to view Olympus Mons.

@@DrNat13 Much appreciate. All your videos Physical Geology, History geology, and environmental geology is my favorite, question do you have video in mineralogy and structure geology, these are core courses am going to do this semester, fall Thank you
@DrNat133 жыл бұрын
I don't have any videos on mineralogy or structural geology. Those are difficult, but very interesting classes. As long as you do all your work and ask questions when you have them, you should be fine. Also, a great resource to help with mineralogy is mindat.org , which includes data on all known minerals and a discussion board for many mineralogy related topics.

I absolutely love your personality. I’m 34 and thinking about a career change and doing as much research as I can before I decide to spend thousands for school. I failed at business administration but I also wasn’t prepared. These videos are pretty good so far. Are there any textbooks you would recommend and is there a way to just get certifications in the field?
@DrNat133 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I am glad you like the videos. The textbook my students use for environmental geology is Environmental Geology by James S. Reichart. Environmental Geology by Carla Montgomery is also very good. Certificates in Environmental Geology are offered at some universities, but they are usually for people pursuing other undergraduate degrees, already have an undergraduate degree, or are pursuing graduate degrees. Geology is a very enjoyable career with many different employment opportunities, including in academia, government, and industry. If you are serious about studying the subject, I encourage you to visit a university near you and talk to them about their geology program. Best wishes in your educational endeavours.

@@DrNat13 ok, I’m gonna look into it. I was told there is math envolved to. What should I be learning for that? I’m not good at math at all lol
@DrNat133 жыл бұрын
Geology is a science and a good knowledge of math is important for any science. Most B.S. programs in geology require taking at least Calculus I and II. In my career, I use lots of algebra and trigonometry, but I also sometimes use calculus when modelling different phenomena.
