001 - Environmental Science
In this video Paul Andersen outlines the AP Environmental Science course. He explains how environmental science studies the interaction between earth and human systems. A planetary boundary model is used to explain the importance of sustainability. The importance of science practices and knowledge of the APES format is also included.

@@anshaggarwal9531 if it’s your first time learning the content or learning something new from the videos, you should definitely take notes. Otherwise, if you already have good notes on the content (from your class lectures/textbook/etc.) and are simply trying to review all the information, you don’t necessarily need to take notes. I didn’t take notes when I watched them, but that’s because I was just trying to review everything :)

Thank you Mr. Anderson! I am a PhD student in Environmental Science, and having come from a slightly different background I have used your videos to get up to speed on the full range of topics in Environmental Science (not to mention physics, chemistry, and biology.) Your courses have been far and away the most important and concise in my learning thus far, and have formed the basis of my general science refresh before beginning my research. I can't thank you enough for that. And my entire family can't thank you enough for being so engaging and clear that they don't mind being subjected to my homework. Your work is amazing, thank you.

As someone with a bachelor's in Environmental Science, do not look for a job in this field. Bad pay, very competitive job market, difficult to get entry level experience, and typically internships or seasonal work is the only available jobs. Go for environmental engineering if you actually want to make a difference with some good money.

Valid points, these are common issues. I am an 18 year professional in Environmental Science and Environmental Health. Here are my suggestions about environmental science work. You must (1) network well and often and join professional organizations (as a student member or professional) (2) get a specialization (meaning gain more education and knowledge in a specific area) some chose GIS or other marketable skills; my specialization is in Water Quality & Treatment (if possible get a job that will pay for continuing education) (3) have or get a mentor - this circles back to being a part of an environmental organization (4) pay varies, know how you can make more $ early, pay can increase if you have a specialization also as you gain more experience in the field. The major problem I see with the environmental career field is that students arent advised well. before graduating Graduates dont understand the many options in the enviromental science field and how to take advantage of them. Your earning potential depends on having valuable skills. I recommend for those that are thinking about being an environmental science major to google job descriptions and requirements now. Environmental engineering is also a very good choice it's easier to make more money sooner, because you usually are helping more with development/altering the natural environment for human use or occupation or to reverse or repair ecological damage. Good luck to you @aaroncowan9832

Great video! People really need this. I am in the hospitality industry, and we really need to start thinking about sustainability now. Which is the reason for my interest in environmental science. I hope we can have a sustainable future.

Great content! Is the material in this video series still applicable for the 2023 AP Environmental Science exam? I'm asking because this was published over 7 years ago, and there have probably been some syllabus changes.

I don't think leaders will make the necessary changes until it's too late... sometimes the future seems bleak. Have you read "Collapse" by Jared Diamond? He uses examples from history, like the Vikings and Easter Island, and shows the relationship between the changes in their environment and the stability of their society.

Have to now go back and comment on this first series from Bozeman. Totally 10* 10* 10*. Schematic presentation is great systems analysis parsing. Massively encouraged with great presentation technique. Must go through all the other playlist series as well!

I just need a science subject. I love geography and I love simple science and I love the environment.... but I suck at math and physics and probably I would suck in chemistry and biology, I just want to know if environmental science has these types of difficulties that you find in physics, chemistry etc... Please can someone help me?

N.Tesla patent# 685,957 potentially allowed for “free” electricity, save for maintenance. Hemp can replace plastic or utilized in building shelters...hempcrete absorbs CO2! Water security is important to figure out however compost toilets and fewer dishes (needing wash and rinse) will alleviate the demand for water. Dung beetles to handle pet feces and aerate soils-helping the water cycle. Few ideas for a sustainable future...

I don't think killing people off is the answer, trying to find a way to live sustainably would be a better step towards dealing with our ever expanding population, alongside better birth control in both developing and developed countries, couple that with education and you have a good starting point.

A key concept I learnt in E. Sci. classes was about carrying capacity, and that many people think earth has met it's carrying capacity for humans. With this idea forefront, as much I think it is a great privilege to have a child I chose not to, and I know many people whom has also, I hope other people also voluntarily do not have children. Rather I put my spare time and money into volunteering with a rehad centered for injured animals, and do lots of other volunteer projects in my community and globally. 7 billion is the cap, we need to all really think about this, 1000's of other species go extinct every year largely due to human activities. Just stick to making lots of friends and perhaps adopting a child whom needs a forever home.
