Whenever I listen to it, I have the impression that I am either in some beautiful fairy-tale land with elves or other beautiful magical creatures, or I am in a beautiful clearing and I meet a beautiful girl there and this beauty is not only physical but also spiritual and I have a romantic relationship with this otherworldly girl. relationship. And all this makes Enya's songs some of the most beautiful songs in the world for me!

@hakonsoreide3 жыл бұрын
@@jayclarke6671 Ah, yes. There were so many other comments about the imagined challenges of finding it, I was thinking along those lines too when I replied, but you are right. There is a reason so much of the music of the 70's and 80's, particularly, keeps getting played and seems a lot longer-lived than most of what has come since. I am a bit of a cultural omnivore myself, enjoying classical music, opera, modernism, 60's pop, old-school jazz, Bluegrass, Breton folk music, ambient, experimental electronic music, 80's pop, and even some of the new stuff, up to and including Eurovision songs. I don't judge anyone's musical tastes, and I like keeping an open mind about cultural expressions of all kinds. I think what I generally respond positively to, though, is when something is done well within its genre and style, and when it feels genuine and sincere. That does admittedly rule out a lot of the 21st Century stuff. I usually use the word "interesting" too as a measure for what I consider good art. And it also means I don't actually like Orinoco Flow so much. I think it's the least interesting song from the album Watermark, and I tend to skip it. It sounds like it was cynically made to be commercial as opposed to being made to express something profound like the rest of the album does far more successfully. Her next album, Shepherd Moons is overall her best. After that, she gradually started repeating herself without really creating anything new, and I lost interest in paying attention to any of her new stuff after "The Memory of Trees" (which I bought on the day of release).

I first heard this song through the static of my car radio in the early 90's and immediately began searching for it, but failed repeatedly. I even bought a White Snake CD at a music store because it had a track on it called "Sail Away," but it wasn't the right song. Fast forward ten years. I got a 3rd shift job and was having a hard time sleeping during the day, so I walked into this tiny music shop that I happened to pass on my way home from somewhere. The store was dark and the only person in it was an odd looking middle-aged woman with piercing green eyes. I told her I needed something relaxing to help me sleep and she said she had just the thing. The woman disappeared and came back with an album called "Watermark" by an artist I had never heard of named Enya. I decided to give it a shot, but when I tried to pay for it she told me the store was closed, (thus the darkness,) and the register was already shut down so I could just take it. On my way home I popped it in. The fourth song, "Storms in Africa," stirred something in my soul, but when I got to track 7 and "Orinoco Flow" played I nearly crashed my car. I had not heard the song even _once_ since that time 10 years earlier, and here it was, without the static, enchantingly beautiful, and free! I decided the next time I was in that town I'd go back and thank that lady profusely and buy every Enya album there was in the store! But when I finally made it back out there 6 months later, the little music shop had vanished and was replaced by a drug store. The whole experience was odd. If it wasn't for the fact that I still have the CD I would think the whole thing was a dream.

Bro you’re crazy. She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Just because you don’t know much about her doesn’t mean she’s under appreciated.

This is one of my favorite songs by Enya. The songs that this woman does are rather soothing to me, especially when I am in an unnerving situation. What's funny is when I had outpatient surgery in a hospital (where I underwent general anesthesia), I was permitted to listen to my music on my iPod in the OR, all on my iPod and noise canceling headphones. I was still listening to this wonderful Enya song when I had awakened in the recovery room. Thanks Enya for keeping me calm eleven years ago when I would go under the knife in the hospital!

Orinoco Flow by Enya is a song/music video that will always remain very special to me, safely tucked in a specialised compartment in my heart. I first saw and heard it sometime in 1992 as a 7 y/o on local tv after I arrived home from school. I grew up poor, but I was quite rich in imagination. Geography happened to be one of my favourite subjects plus I also yearned to travel the world which was why the song instantly resonated with me so much the first time I heard/saw it. Almost 2 decades later or when the opportunity presented itself, I finally travelled the world. And, yes, I experienced sailing away through a few cruises in the Caribbean and elsewhere. Been to at least 38 countries thus far. I hope to explore the world some more in the future if life circumstances and finances will permit it. Dream on. You'll also sail away, through hard work and/or opportunities, someday.
