The Raven Guard stealth ability is not overhyped in the slightest - Captain Aethon Shaan and a squad from his 4th company appeared out of nowhere in the middle of Ultramarines fortress monastery on Macragge during a war council - and spooked the hell out of all of legends of Ultramarines gathered there by announcing themselves. I've never played Warhammer 40K, or any army battle game. But, I have a great time watching Jay get excited about it all, even though I usually have little idea what it all means. I got sucked in by his interesting and creative modelling and paint jobs. Using the mask for a cape here was fantastic! I also love the not-so-little little raven skull as well.

For my Raven Guard, I've making a band that decided to help their dad bring the milk home. So they foolishly ran off into the Eye of Terror with a half cocked plan and are paying some chaotic consequences. I'm calling them A Feast for Crows (but nobody says all that, they're Crows' Feast). Really awesome to see what you did with this one! Giving me some ideas about trying capes myself.

They're BOTH fast and sneaky, because at the end of the day their chapter doctrines evolved in parallel toward a heavy emphasis on raiding The thing is that White Scars are warriors but the Raven Guard are *soldiers* and that distinction comes to the foreground when they're together

Something I just want to add as a gaint Raven Guard fanboy is that, lorewise wraithslipping (at least in 30k) is more than being completely silent, it is more akin to the most experienced of them having a small psychic ability that enables them to be out of sight of most opponents (robots and scanners can still detect them) appearing like they literally merged with shadows. Yes, I know, they are that edgy

Recommendation for fabric when making capes: Dry Baby Wipes. They are a bit thicker but take the glue beautifully.

You missed the grenade. Some chapters I'd be interested in you painting: Black Dragons - 21st (Cursed) Founding - Their bone blades should be cool to see on your models. Blood Angels - 1st Founding - Wonder how you'll make your take on vampires. Plus, they're the chapter that got me most interested in Space Marines. Blood Ravens - Unknown Founding - Mostly just a DoW ask. Crimson Fists - 2nd Founding - The first chapter to ever be seen, having been on the cover art of Rogue Trader. Dark Angels - 1st Founding - The 1st Legion, and their primarch is apparently back. Deathwatch - Ordo Xenos - You can basically use whatever chapter you want with this one. Flesh Tearers - 2nd Founding - A more vicious form of the Blood Angels chapter. Plenty of opportunities for chain weapons. Also, Gabriel Seth's take on the Primaris Marines is based. Grey Knights - Ordo Malleus - Can you do this without any of the special parts? Or will you cave? Iron Snakes - 2nd Founding - Out of all art of space marines, one of my favourite will always be that one Marine with the respirator with a grill like that of a snarling beast, and the giant, thick, slab-like pauldrons. It's such an evocative image. Lamenters - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The checkered pattern on the pauldrons will give you a good challenge. Plus, we gotta love these boys. Mantis Warriors - Possible 8th Founding - Stealthy Samurai Marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines. White Scars - 1st Founding - You have the Storm Lords, but not the White Scars. This must be corrected.

Go on dude, start a Raven Guard army. You already have Black Templars but do Raven Guard too. That way you have a codex compliant chapter and one that likes to do its own thing. I feel there's enough differences there to set them apart. I myself have both Space Wolves and Scythes of the Emperor for that very reason!

The Wraith Slip thing is their Primarch's gift - Corvus Corax had an ability to make himself unnoticeable in plain sight thanks to his warp connection, and some of his sons were able to exhibit a weaker version of that ability - they were assigned to Mór Deithan (The Shadowmasters) and carried out surprise strikes.

Jay, I've had good luck with paper towel (texture) and thin super glue. The process can be challenging, but exhilarating. Start with setting the hood by holding and drip the glue (let it soak in). Then work your way down the cloak, pressing and dripping glue. Pointy tweezers help. You can cut or tear paper towel as needed. If you come up short, you can add bits of paper towel for a more 3D camo effect. Good Luck and thanks for all the work you guys do!

fun fact about the raven guard, the wraith slipping is often achieved by marines shoving dirt and sand in between armor plating to muffle the noise.

Very nice, but he would have been *perfect* if you had pulled out a Devastator beaky head, one of the ones that have a bunch of lenses and scopes and targetting thingies built into the helmet, so he could have YET MORE SCOPES. As for what Legion to paint next, my favorite is always Thousand Sons, if you want to do some Traitor Legions!

I bought the first Horus heresy box just for my Raven Guard, and in the lore they are one of the smallest of space marine chapters. The assault HH marine box works well too.

I love the raven guard, their stealth, the helmets, and I love that they lean into the grunge emo aesthetic to the point of it being funny. A lot of people hate shrikes haircut but I love it, it just fits lol.

The 19th is one of my favorites. Currently I’m trying to turn the space marines I’ve collected through starter sets into a cohesive army, my favorites are the Imperial fists, Iron hands and Ravenguard I’m leaning to either the imperial fist or ravenguard since a friend of mine got his hands on both battle forces and is offering to sell me one.

The Ravenguard upgrade sprue has some smaller bird skulls to chop off and use. That big skull on the chest looks… interesting. For my ravenguard in tactics I usually scrape off the Aquila and put pouches on the chest, like with Phobos marines.

I did a ghillie suit cape for a zaku sniper gunpla using gauze. It looks very close to that kind of netty camouflage that you see draped over military vehicles.

I painted a First born Raven guard space marines from the heroes set 2 years ago. I also gave him a beaky helmet and painted his helmet and arms white. The final result is wonderful and also temp me to make a Raven Guard army, but I got too many as is.

4:15 it isn't imperial propaganda. In one of the meetings between the raven guard + Corax and the night lords + Kurze, the night lords were surprised because the raven guard power armour made no noise, and they came out of shadows as if the materialized from thin air. They're that stealthy.

The ones I forget are the Space Wolves. Several times I've tried to name all 18 legions by heart, and I end up naming 17, and the 20 minutes later finally recall the Space Wolves.

The whole wraithslip thing is derived from Corax, but it used to be only a select few of his Legion capable of a lighter version of their Primarch's. In the Great Crusade/Heresy, they were mostly the Mor Deythan, or other elites like Sharrowkyn, but not a Legion-wide thing. It was actually kind of neat when they confirmed that Shryke was capable of it. If it was now all Raven Guard capable of it in 40k, just because of Primaris having stronger Gene-Seed, that'd be kinda boring. As for Deliverance, there's a good amount known, I'd say, at least from GC/HH times. Modern 40k, though? Well, we might have gotten some more Chapter lore in the cancelled Space Marine Conquests novel by Thomas Parrott, but he got kicked out for alleged leaking of upcoming products. It got ugly. Space Marine Conquests died with that firing.

The Kill Team Salvation box came with Raven Guard transfers, and so does the new Scout Kill team which you will want anyway if you are playing Raven Guard. So RG players do have options for transfers these days. Also Scouts are really good for any chapter so if you have a RG player in your area, trade them the RG transfers for ones you want.

I did a similar trick for capes on some kitbashed Corsair Voidscarred with actual paper towel, but then I put a thin layer of Miliput thinned with IPA to harden them up.
