Okay. I totally agree about the batch painting not being faster. I think that doing a base coat for something like an entire space marine armor is worth doing batch. But then doing pouches etc I find batch painting I miss things and end up having to go back and fix them when I discover it. I would love to see an experiment on that for a video.
@Myserieden3 жыл бұрын
I agree about a video about this. You always hear about batch painting being faster and more efficient. I could see where doing all the base coating in a batch working, but as said above, beyond that the details would become rushed and sloppy. I’m a slow painter regardless. So I’m curious if there’s be a difference with someone who’s already faster.
@Dracodomin3 жыл бұрын
I think it becomes faster as soon as you start tacking on washes. Since they take a while to dry, you can save a lot of time waiting for 6 to dry instead of 1 at a time
@crossbones89563 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. I don’t think I’ll do more than 4 or 5 minis at a time ever again. I’m finishing a box of German Grenadiers for Bolt Action and I’m spending more time going back and fixing things than would have had I just done a few at a time.
@cinnabarsin42883 жыл бұрын
There probably is an efficiency factor that's potentially improved but it's so much more tedious. For me it loses the fun factor a lot faster and I find myself a lot more dissatisfied with the results I'm getting.
@seanwarren93573 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the scale of operation. Doing 10 small models is definitely not worth the effort, unless you're already set up for that kind of process and used to it. That said, it could be worth doing just to learn better process control, but that's a subject for another time. 🤔

I managed to buy a Gallowdark Killzone and have eventually gotten hold of the separate bigbox-specific terrain pieces for the gallowdark season, but It still pains me that I missed out on this box. The terrain is just insanely cool, and the content is so complete. The starter set, while an amazing deal, is still kind off a "kill team lite" experience. You have to expand it fairly quickly. Man this box was great!

I go back and forth with the batch painting theory.. I think it honestly depends on what you are painting.. It seems to work at times and then other times it doesn't.. It's a weird paradox??? nah batch painting is the way to go for speed. Way more time to switch paints than to switch models. But with that said batch painting just feels like you're not getting anywhere since you're doing the same step over and over, which is meh.
@EonsOfBattle3 жыл бұрын
I will definitely be running an experiment in the future! I am not convinced!
@samsowden3 жыл бұрын
I think the wet palette kind of kills the switching paint argument. All the paint is there all the time.
@Sturmensky3 жыл бұрын
@@samsowden Potentially. I can see an argument being made for extra time spent cleaning your brush slowing you down (though you should always clean your brush regularly, even if you aren't changing colours). I think the main benefit of batch painting is the rhythm. If the models are similar, you're almost always doing the same motions. That means less time figuring out what to paint, where to paint, etc. I think batch painting is good for large sections (e.g., armor, coats) and pieces that are uniform across all models. But I'll do fiddly bits (e.g., pouches) model-by-model.

Batch painting the full 9 is the issue, I did one to completion to make sure everything worked, and then I split the rest of the 9 in half 4 and 5, and batch painted them that way. Theyre not the exact same as the fw sculpts but they did a great job all the same. If GW does a plastic krieg army box in the future it will put many IG players in the poorhouse. Also the kommando kit is what the beast snaggas and new boyz kit should have been. Theyre excellent. Other than the nob they can be really flexible with a little work and they just look excellent.

I am going to play devils advocate by saying, batch painting works. How exactly? Well you slather on base coats first, then do finer details after. I play Necromunda more than Kill Team, and since I wanted to be an advocate for the game, I bought all the gangs (even the dark uprising box) and most of the bounty hunters. I painted everything, the terrain was a separate, and I painted all eight gangs, and ten bounty hunters (not including my own hired guns), here's a few things: worry about finer details later, stick to one or two base coats, make leathers one or two different colors, make most metals one color, and do very little basing. Specially since the Necromunda bases are suppose to be industrial. But, I do say I like the result of these Kreig Guardsman color scheme, and I may end up just buying the men separately. Otherwise 10/10 and needs more Dakka and Big Shoota's

I really don't care if I miss details or if it doesn't look that great since nobody can actually see anything from the sides of the table anyway (let's be real were all in our 40s), and I only care about playing the game.
