I was just diagnosed with EoE. I am a 70 year old male. Never have had any problems swallowing. But, about 8 years ago I choked on a pretzel. Ever since then I do choke on dry things a little more often and things with vinegar cause my throat to spasm. I am on no other medications for anything. Been pretty healthy my whole life. My symptoms for about a year and a half have been, a lump in my throat and pressure down the middle of my chest feeling like I’m on the verge of a panic attack. I am currently doing my own version of an elimination diet. They also found that I have a small hiatal hernia. Thank you for this info.

Thank you for sharing your story. As you know EoE is a progressive disease that does require careful monitoring and long-term follow up. Here is an excellent resource for you APFED - they have a wealth of info, tools and community of support. apfed.org/. This is wonderful for patients, especially those who have just been diagnosed.

Thank you for this episode! I was diagnosed with EOE earlier this year. I had 2 or 3 years of what I thought was extreme acid reflux. I would have "attacks" where I would throw up for 1 or 2 hours straight and couldn't even swallow water. After a few months of omeprazole, my doctor prescribed eohilia. However, it made me very nauseous, so I stopped and decided to eliminate dairy. So I was happy to hear in this episode that dairy is the one to try! I am only a couple of weeks in, so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck.

Thank you for your suggestion. In the meantime, please check out American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED) for helpful resources and more specific information. They are a trusted and evidence-based organization for patients with eosinophilic disorders like EoE and EG. apfed.org/ apfed.org/about-ead/egids/eg/

Interesting about cow's milk being the number one thing to try. I wonder; do they eliminate all dairy? Or have they determined it is the lactose present in milk? Or something else specifically? Thanks

What was the name of the 2 medications mentioned? What was the name of the US organization for support?

Hi thank you for your question. The organization mentioned is the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED) apfed.org/ Diagnosis Info and Treatment Options for EoE Mayo Clinic www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eosinophilic-esophagitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20372203 Excerpt From Mayo Clinic on Medication "Proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Your provider will likely first prescribe an acid blocker such as a PPI. This treatment is the easiest to use, but most people's symptoms don't improve. Topical steroid. If you do not respond to the PPI, your provider will then likely prescribe a steroid, such as fluticasone or budesonide. This steroid is in a liquid form that is swallowed to treat eosinophilic esophagitis. This type of steroid is not absorbed into the bloodstream, so you are unlikely to have the typical side effects often associated with steroids. Monoclonal antibodies. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved dupilumab (Dupixent) for treatment of adults and children 12 years and older with eosinophilic esophagitis. Dupilumab is a type of medicine known as a monoclonal antibody. It works to block the action of certain proteins in the body that cause inflammation. Dupilumab is given weekly via injection" Source: www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eosinophilic-esophagitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20372203
