I've travelled this ferry route loads of times as I find it to be the BEST UK channel service. Tips for future trips; Only take a prepacked overnight bag with you up to the cabin, Your other luggage is perfectly safe on the bike as all car decks are locked during sailing. Take the lift from the cardeck to the upper decks. Best not to go to bed on a full stomach, I allways go straight to bed without a meal or drink to get a good sleep. (I Stop about an hour short of the Hoek V. H. for my evening meal.) Shower in the morning and have breakfast on bord then you're fresh and fit for the start of the ride. I'm a great fan of Stena as once they waited 15mins for me (returning from my fathers funeral in Scotland) when I couldn't get a return ferry from Newcastle (due to tour coaches taking up all the cabins) I was given first class service by the crew after a nonstop 6 hr drive down to Harwich.

Great video, we are from the uK and riding on the left is rubbish. When we go to France we find riding on the right feels more natural.

I'm not gonna mix into that discussion which is the "wrong" and "right" side 😂 In the end it wasn't that bad. Funny that the other side feels more natural to you

Heya new subscriber here. Loved the video. I don’t know if this has been pointed out or not but at (3:40) you see the lorry pulling out but watch the back of the lorry, you will see him hit and take off the side mirror of the lorry parked next to it 😮
@Wrong-Way-Round Жыл бұрын
He didn't touch the mirror, the truck pulling out was in fact a dock 'tractor' loading unacompanied trailors onto the ferry. You have to take into consideration that the camera on the bike was moving forward towards the boat and therefore could not shoe that there was in fact plenty of room. You're welcome 😉
@KharmGaming Жыл бұрын
@@Wrong-Way-Round I thought he did because if you watch the left mirror on the yellow truck you can see it get hit then fall to the floor
@Wrong-Way-Round Жыл бұрын
@@KharmGamingI enlarged the video and I think your mistaking the black parts of the trailor firms logo as parts of the mirror. The mirror brackets are also angled in their proper position. It is also possible to see the front of another truck thro' the gap between the tail end of the trailor and the cab it it passing. Like I said the moving angle of the camera is leading you to believe they touched. PS. Without meaning to sound too pedantic 🙊🙉, 'Floors' are inside buildings, outside it is the Ground, (in this instance, paved Ground)

I know what you mean about sleeping on a ship. You did have a smooth crossing as far as the sea state was, but ships just vibrate all the time because of the engines (I'm guessing). I've never had a good night's sleep on one either. You'll get used to driving on the left. I had the reverse problem when I moved from the UK to Germany back in '83, but you eventually stop thinking about it. That's actually the worst time for you because that's when you make mistakes and end up on the wrong side. Safe travels and I'm looking forward to the next one.
@LNRmoto Жыл бұрын
Yeah it was exactly that, the engines were on and off vibrating, which woke me up the entire time. A constant buzz would've been nicer, but we survived (sort of) as you'll see in the next episode. I hope you stopped thinking about it after all that time haha, but can imagine it was weird at first.
@fizzyridertoo Жыл бұрын
@@LNRmoto I live in the USA now so it's stopped feeling weird. I visited the UK a few weeks ago though and it probably took me a good 20 minutes before I felt comfortable again. You'll encounter the same problem when you go back home I think. What I find useful is to visualise a stretch of road that I know really well and have no doubt about which side I should be on. It works for me anyway. Enjoy your trip :)

"A nice small beer" i rather think that was the largest they got 😄. It´s always nice after a ended ride 👍 I know what your talking about regarding left side riding, especially some roundabouts and some crosses. But with MC it´s not a crisis if you do something wrong, it´s not that easy with cars that takes up almost all the space in the lane. I have rented bikes several times on Cyprus that also uses the "wrong" side.

As a Scotsman in the Army I was posted to Germany from Northern Ireland. Driving on the "right hand side of the road" I quickly became accustomed to until 2 miles from my destination in Germany, when I hit a roundabout...I went down the left only to be confronted by a huge tractor....I, obviously gestured my apologies to have the tractor driver give me a not so pleasant gesture 😆. I am now, currently touring America and I can simply say...they have signs for everything, I am bamboozled with the amount of signs entering and leaving a town,. I honestly miss half them...and half are irrelevant. Although the signs across UK and Europe are slightly different they do not confuse you as much as America. Just come across your channel and will be following from now on. Thank you for a great video.

But I was anxious about my stuff on the bike, so didn't want a long ferry ride 😅 The riding on the left was so enforced when exiting from Dover, that I got used to it really quickly.

I guess we all have stories to tell, but as a brit after I ride in Europe, it's returning home that is most dangerous - you relax a bit more being back home and then you find yourself on the wrong side of the road having forgotten you aren't on the other side of the channel any more.
@markdennis930 Жыл бұрын
'you find yourself on the wrong side of the road having forgotten '. Having lived and served all over the World, and many years in mainland Europe, I do not agree. People make far, far too much out of the change. It just not that difficult (I did it first at 19 years old, and still regularly at 56).
