Remember watching this episode with my sister. I was in 8th grade she a few years older. We disagreed on which was the best BeeGees song in the medley - i said Massachusetts, she said Lonely Days. I may be one of the even fewer people who love their pre-disco, post-disco, AND their disco catalog. Some of my earliest musical memories are hearing their hits in the car with my mom. First song of theirs I recall hearing was "How Can You Mend". Some people think they were just a disco band, but people in this thread know the Bee Gees' career started before the word "disco" even existed. I was too young to be aware of their 60's hits, but I liked all of their '70s hits, and that includes when they embraced dance music on Main Course. But whether it was dance hits like "Jive Talkin'" and "Nights on Broadway" or ballads like "Fanny", it all sounded great to me. And, yes, I _loved_ Saturday Night Fever. 😊 Their songwriting skills _always_ shined through regardless of the style. IMO, "How Deep Is Your Love" is one of the best songs of all time. And then there's all the songs they wrote for other artists. Their songwriting skill is what gave them such a lengthy career. It has always disappointed me that the massive success of SNF made the casual listening public dismiss them as the standard bearers of disco because 1) disco isn't inherently bad, and 2) they obviously wrote so much more than their string of SNF hits.
@chriskroll4166 Жыл бұрын
At the end of the show when the BG's sat down and did their acoustic medley they totally owned the show. In my opinion that is the highest Pinnacle you could reach in songwriting and singing especially with the harmonies . One of the greatest bands to ever grace this planet. God bless The BG's . 🙏

@@Pamsmith59Yes, it was a low point, but their resurgence came before SNF - they had huge success with the Main Course album. I remember as a teenager, never missing The Midnight Special. It was my favorite show of the week to watch.

Great show! This was 6 years before I got to see the Bee Gees at Dodger Stadium in July of 1979, post Saturday Night Fever! Loved Gladys, Johnny, Jerry Lee, and all the rest! 😁✌️

The Bee Gee's were so much more musically sophisticated than the others.
