There is a seniority among the services, and it was deliberately changed in the Indian services, compared to the practices of the British services. For the UK, the senior service is the Navy, and there is no doubt about that. For India, the Indian Navy started from the Royal Indian Navy, and that itself was quite behind the British Indian Army, counting only from 1858. The Indian Army - the British Indian Army - with its commander-in-chief, one of whom actually was a factor in destroying one of the most powerful viceroys, when the two of them clashed - was the senior service, followed by the Indian Navy; the Indian Air Force, being the most recent, is the juniormost service (as it is in the UK). That apart, the seniority from their batch numbers in the NDA counts, when all three are of the same rank, and if not, the rank counts.
