Shehla Rashid is an activist, researcher, and academician who gained prominence in 2016 for advocating the release of then JNU President Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested on sedition charges. Recently, she made headlines for a notable shift, applauding the central government for the 'improved' situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Previously critical of human rights issues in Jammu and Kashmir, Shehla faced sedition charges over tweets against Indian army. She served as the vice-president of JNUSU in 2015-16, was a member of AISA, and completed her graduation from NIT Srinagar.
In the latest ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, Shehla Rashid commends the Modi government and J&K L-G Sinha for the 'improved situation' in the valley. Only a fool would believe what Shehla Rashid says....Today she is praising Modi ji and saying that everything is good in Kashmir, she is saying all this because she is afraid of going to jail because there were riots in Shaheen Bagh during the CAA-NRC in 2020. It is worth keeping in mind that Shehla Rashid had given very provocative speeches during these riots and at that time Umar Khalid was also with him....Delhi Police put Umar Khalid in jail and recently the Lt. Governor of Delhi also gave permission to Delhi Police to run a case against Shehla Rashid, after which Shehla Rashid is very scared.Perhaps she knows what happened to Umar Khalid in jail, that is why she is already looking for ways to escape from jail by praising Modi & Army

This is such an interesting conversation. She first wanted to be famous by being a rebel, then saw how Kanhaiya Kumar had a poor political entry, Umar Khalid went to jail by trying to be famous being against CAA. She went back into hibernation, had a deep thought and realised that unless she plays ball with Modi government, she won't have a political career. Also wants government support in academic career. Within first 15 minutes i am over it. She has all the sensitivity to the domestic violence trauma ( it totally right and she deserves sympathy for it) but when it comes to kashmiri teachers not being there and replaced by terrorists roaming around in neighborhood, she doesn't seem to empathize with their trauma and change in whole environment. There is no discussion with the family or friends to have empathy towards pandits trauma( which is odd as she was already sensitized to trauma and was more inclined towards justice for oppressed, as per her own narrative). Why did she remain so partial in her empathy towards oppressed. Trust deficit is not so easy to recover from , I guess.
