Thanks for being on the right side of history. I'm a white guy, late GenX, and grew up without a racist bone in my body. My favorite TV shows when I was a kid were The Jeffersons, Good Times, The Cosby Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Fat Albert and the Gang, etc. Only, since Obama (who I voted for his first term, bc I thought it was the right thing to do, even tho I am a Republican) I catch myself agreeing with racists and the things they say. Of course their has always been some truth to what they say, but I know that it isn't a racial thing, it is class and circumstance, as well as culture, and I hate that the DemocRATs have made me feel this way. People like you need to be the loudest voices from your group, to remind those of us who are not, that their are ppl like you out there, and you aren't all criminals, or criminal apologists, accessories, or beneficiaries to crime...

Years ago, I watched a several documentaries about Dylan and my memory is that it was Dylan's less than intense interest in the left-wing politics popular with prominent folkies which was the main reason they became disappointed? angry? with him. However, Dylan's fan's anger was absolutely rooted in his embrace of the black strat, and performing with back-up rock/pop band musicians (who went on to become "The Band"). He was jeered and booed at one of their early performances in England, one angry fan yelling "traitor" during the performance. After the performance Dylan had some unpleasant exchanges with some attendees. The other thing I remember was how different he was backstage with other musicians. A totally normal, pleasant enough guy. The Dylan public personna, interacting with reporters and journalist, seemed to me to be a bit of an act, fueled perhaps by his disdain for media? I could be wrong. or maybe misremembering. If so . . . apologies. Anyway, I enjoyed the show and the movie review.

Here's the thing: The firefighters are in thick clothing with face-concealing masks wearing full helmets when performing the most important function of their job. So... why is skin color so important to this job again? Also, I'm pretty sure that muscles is THE most important part, given all the rubble you have to clear, and how much the water from the hose fights you. And that's not even covering the endurance needed for repeatedly throwing yourself into danger for one more person. It's absolute madness to apply such a program to the fire department, and the worst part is that these people voted for it.

The country does not elect regimes. Its a democracy, representative democracy. It is a corporation that elects people to administrate it. The citizens are the shareholders, you might say. We elect the corp. President, VP and CEO to administrate it. If we choose incompetents, mediocres, demented, corrupt criminals etc. It will fail, like any private business you might have. If you dont have the best employees, people who believe in it and follow the guidelines and rules and make the best deals, it will fail. This is what the people need to understand. If you fill it with communists or people of different cultures who dont see things the same way or believe in democracy or are communist, theyll turn it into a communist country or a 3rd world communist dictatorship.

Todd Haynes made a bit of masterpiece film about Dylan called "I'm Not Here" and Dylan is played by 6 different actors portraying the phases of his career. It's truly amazing as a film. I hope you watch it sometime. Meanwhile, Tommy Robinson is an exceptional modern day folk hero that many don't recognize. His first long form interview with Jordan Peterson, after being detained by Canadian authorities, is mind blowing and painful. He talks at length about his upbringing and how he started fighting on behalf of the girls who were being groomed. The levels of misunderstanding him are epic. I hope you get to see that too. Thank you for all you do in the way of conversation about the arts Andrew.. It means a lot to me, as a fellow artist. I'm incredibly excited about what is coming. Godspeed.

I've been a firefighter the Australian NSW Rural Fire Service for over 25 years and can truthfully say I have some excellent female firefighters at my station. None of them would try to carry a large man out of a burning building in their own, because it would likely result in both them, and the person they are trying to rescue, getting killed. In firefighting, when arriving on scene the officer in charge would direct only those physically capable to do such a task. A female firefighter would likely tasked as a pump operator, to be using a fire hose, to be checking for hazards such as turning off the electricity to the burning structure, being backup inside the building to assist the member carrying out and injured person or may actually be the officer in charge. All that said it amazes me that fire officer Kristine Larson made a snarky remark instead of the truth, that as in all properly conducted emergency responses, the female members would be tasked to the jobs they are suited to do. She missed a golden opportunity to explain all the valuable roles female firefighters regularly and routinely do. I'm reminded of a time when we had an injured person trapped under a vehicle, and a female member was the only one with a body small enough to get to him and render first aid. Sorry to say this, but on the face of it, Kristine Larson is not the caliber of woman that I would expect to be a fire service officer. But to give her the benefit of a doubt, she is obviously young, and the criticism she is getting for this train wreck of an interview may be a useful learning experience for her on what not to say in an interview.

While not a fan, I have a lot of respect for Dylan as an artist for remaining true to his own vision. As you say it wasn’t just that he went electric. He had people like Allen Ginsburg proclaiming him “the voice of a generation.” Dylan rejected that label. He would be a voice for himself as a true artist always will be. After he went electric he further distanced himself from the hippies by making a country album, Nashville Skyline.

Re-watch MAN OF STEEL. This time, re-watch it and pay special attention for the Father/Son interactions. I noticed this immediately from the first time I'd watched it and can't stop praising it. I agree with you, Logan was a good movie--for a Super Heroe movie, as I also don't really care for them, but Superman has a mythology to him that is interesting--but I digress. Anyways, Superman crash landed in middle America and was discovered by a hard-working farmer and his wife, who took him in and raised him as their own. Superman could have been the ultimate destroyer of all life on Earth, had he not been raised properly. In this movie, they show the different interactions between Clark and his father, and I believe that this was the most important point/take-away from the movie. It's symbolic of how important the father is to a boy (girls too, but especially boys).
