Wellllllll.....The WNBA revenue was $60 million (NBA sends $10 million cause it cost $70 million to operate their competition). WNBA average salary is $102,751 meaning they are getting 0.171%. The NBA revenue was $8.3 billion, with the average NBA salary of $7.5million dollars meaning they are getting 0.090%. So if she's talking about getting paid same percentage of revenue as NBA players then she needs to be talking about WNBA players taking a paycut.

I don’t see why WNBA players don’t understand the business side of basketball. It is not exposing how underpaid they are, that is public information. They are getting paid what their value is based on the business they bring to the team. Superstars and all stars in the NBA don’t get paid based on how good they are at basketball. They get paid max contracts because their value is high to the teams brand and business. They bring in Rick sales, Jersey sales, etc. That’s how it works.

Let’s face it, they shouldn’t even be paid. Athletes are supposed to earn money based on revenue earnings. That’s just not the case when the NBA has to keep subsidizing the league, in order for them to keep the lights on.

Ikr and that absurd comparison to where the NBA was at 25 years?! The NBA was profitable and not relying on another league to financially dig them out of the hole lol. A fairer comp would be the G league. The G League players are paid much less money and that league is actually profiting. Every G League player makes 40K and that’s it. These women need to stop living in crazy land and think they are even remotely comparable to the NBA. They can’t even generate enough revenue to post all the other employees needed to make the league work, traveling expenses and utility bills. Unless they completely change their attitudes, the league is destined to fail.

She's one of my favorite players but her argument unfortunately like the rest of the players is weak. The one thing they forget when they compare the WNBA at year 25 with the NBA at year 25 is the NBA didn't have a parent league supporting them, free promotion and marketing, subsided operational cost, and other outside opportunities. It's going to be a significant life changing event when they negotiate shared revenue that isn't there but I think the conversation will create better clarity and transparency.

I get where you're coming from, but that's a bad argument as well. Basketball as a sport wasn't that big in 1966-there were still people that hadn't seen a game and the growth potential was huge in these frontier markets. Currently, everyone has seen women's and there's not much growth potential. Outside of women supporting the WNBA, it will stay a failed experiment.

There already isn't enough to operate the league. The WNBA's existence requires the NBA to act as a subsidirary to the tune of $10M or more per year. The league has not once broken even, let alone turned a profit, on any of their 25 seasons. The simple fact of the matter is they're not drawing enough of an audience from half the population who couldn't give less a shit about their sport: Women.

The revenue share thing doesn't work in her favor. Sure, the NBA players get 50% revenue share vs 20% for WNBA players. That looks bad at first glance. However, the WNBA has way fewer players. On a per player basis, WNBA players actually get a larger revenue share than NBA players. The NBA has 450 players. Across 450 players, their 50% revenue share comes out to about 0.11% revenue share per player. The WNBA has 144 players. Across 144 players, their 20% comes out to 0.13% per player.

Interesting that she talks about shared-revenue without talking about the financial loss per season that the WNBA has. How are they going to receive the same percentage that NBA players receive if the WNBA never made a profit since its inception in 1997? From the revenue that the league makes, they receive 20.5%, approximately. If they start getting paid the same percentage as men, which makes billions in profit, not millions in losses, how is the league going to cover the loss? They get a percentage of the revenue, even though the league is losing 10 million a year and they still complain that they want to get more. If this were a real business, the WNBA wouldn't even exist anymore. No Business lasts 26 years having financial loss

Secondly she can't compare the first 25 years of the NBA to the WNBA, the NBA had another league actively competing against them and taking a lot of talent from the NBA, there wasn't dedicated sports media readily available, even watching an NBA game was difficult, and most importantly there was no billion dollar company subsidizing the NBA. The WNBA is not profitable and never has been, if the Houston Comets folded within what 5 years since the leagues birth what does that tell you? Lower the rim, do a better job at prompting the league, STOP with this delusional " Woe as me" behavior and maybe you can be profitable and get more money and get those jersey sale checks.

@@jj47k. how do I know your talking facts? Have you read any financial statements? Been to any games? Followed the league period? Are youthe league accountant or the teams' accountant to make any of these claims? No. If you are not a supporter, stop acting like you know how to run a business like a sports league or handle the finances of a business like a sports league or the teams in the league.

Moron, you don't have to be an accountant to understand profit and loss.

This woman doesn't understand basic economics. If she wants the same profit share as Lebron, then the WNBA will have to give her a bigger cut of the pie, and reduce the salaries of all the other players around her. That's the NBA model. So she better be ready for the smoke from the other players when this happens.
