In the beginning of this episode you asked about the difference in the ways our National flag is hoisted in independence day and republic day. Actually, i should not be using the word hoisted itself, because there in itself lies the difference. On our independence day we were declared independent and the british flag was pulled down or lowered and for the first time our National flag was hoisted i.e. tied at the bottom and then pulled up and then opened. so, in commemoration of this event, on every independence day our National flag is tied at the bottom of the pole, and then is pulled up and then opened. This is called 'Hoisting the Flag'. Whereas, on the Republic Day, our Country was already independent and the flag was already hoisted, i.e was at the top of the flag, so the flag is tied at the top of the pole, and is only opened. This is called 'Unfurling the Flag'. I think as an Indian citizen, we all should know this difference. It is very nice of you to bring about this topic here, because through your initiative many of our brothers and sisters will come to know about it.

On 15th Aug- we got independence and flag was for the first time set on the pole from bottom and then rolled on top and hoisted. whereas on Jan 26 the flag is supposed to be already there and thus hoisted on top.
