I think it's interesting that ryan says that pop and theatre music are separated by the act of storytelling because it makes me think of country music, because popular country songs that people love (even those who don't normally like country music) tell stories and that makes them interesting. examples include: the devil went down to georgia, church bells, blown away, the entire subculture in country of women murdering abusive or cheating men. but the difference is that those songs tell the whole story in 3-6 minutes. The reason hamilton doesn't have a radio hit is because the songs all tell a piece of the story not the whole thing so it leaves the listener disappointed and without an ending if you were to switch from guns and ships for example to good to be alive. but if the song finishes the story the listener gets a satisfying ending and can then move to the next experience for example from two black cadillacs to 5150 isn't that big of a jump.

10:30 The listener should be thinking "what does this song mean to me? and how can i connect it to my life?"
