This makes me feel better as I wait on the final pieces to cobble together my first AR. The hogue monogrip was priced right and looked comfy so hopefully once installed it's going to be my go to on any build

First I'd like to say, with all my research and web crawling I can't figure out how it took me so long to find your channel. That said I will agree with most all of your posted comments; you are one of the best and concise I've ever viewed. Thanks for the knowledge and examples you use in your message. I'm one of those not big hands, but long fingered folk. So often I'm struggling to get what I think is comfortable, and what is repeatable to match. As a former Marine using an M-16. Just figured it out and made it work. Now shooting an AR for hunting and recreation, I figured out I don't have to work so hard to have the right fit on components to get consistent shots. Especially when it comes to trigger pull. When you said grab your AR, I grabbed one. And throughout the video, I realized I had tree different angels and styles of grip on all three builds. Which changes how I hold each one. But I was looking for two major things. A compartment for ear plugs, allen wrench etc. And a pistol style extension to move my hand rearward to put my finger in better position. Didn't consider angle, biu now I will. Lastly... colors not an issue. I have really gotten into putting a skin on all my weapons. Thanks for all the info!

Hey, thank you very much. Comments like these really make the whole effort worthwhile. Just like you, after decades of shooting around the world from little guy to my 40s, it's been pretty eye opening to step deeper into the commercial side of the shooting world...and immediately get lost in choices. Not only that, but then you mix in the science/engineering/ballistics & it sure can make your head spin. In a shooting world where NO-SIZE-FITS-ALL and much of the available information is scattered everywhere (also typically opinionated) ... we just hope to clear away the blinders and help folks narrow things down faster. We're just getting started! -Randy

The beaver tail on the grip can also determine your trigger finger length of pull. If you go without the beavertail your finger will probably hit the magazine housing thereby causing a fumbling to get to the trigger.

I just took a dremel to my A2 grip, sanded it even, then wrapped some camo bandage wrap around it. It worked, but I eventually replaced it with a Magpul K Grip. I have a B5 P-23 grip on my other rifle.

"they do look pretty *~cool~* with those anodized colors" LMAO I got my first AR recently and this series has been really useful, and also great at letting me know that I really don't want or need to spend much money on the customizations that actually matter to me. Yeah, it can be tough to get some stick time behind those grips. The best I could suggest is find a store that would allow you to pop a couple open and feel them. It's not ideal, but it sure beats buying a handful to figure it out!

Quick ? Randy. I just came across your very awesome and insightful, "The Ultimate AR-15 Beginner's Guide" of videos here on your channel and simply wanted to know what happened to your "Ep-8" video, since it's the only one missing from your channel here. Or, was it simply a "numbering miscue" when creating and compiling these videos here for us folks to indulge in? Just wanting confirmation from you if there is an actual "Ep-8" video or not for your followers out here, like myself.

I use an A2 because left handed. Need the smaller grip for pointer finger to work mag release and bolt catch on lr 308. Plus I shortened my ambi safety selector on left side. So my trigger finger is not hitting safety selector. I hate the fat grip on my bow. Add on gloves and it feels huge requiring more force to hold than thin grip.
@Raven_Enforcer

I'm left handed. I switched to the Magpul K grip. It doesn't have the beaver tail, but it's a smaller grip. It's not bulky at all. They do have a K grip with the beaver tail.

I know this is a traditional build series, but in your magazine video you mentioned "state compliant" aftermarket... What are your thoughts on Thumbhole stocks or fixed stocks that incorporate the pistol grip into the stock itself?
@At3tactical
@At3tactical Жыл бұрын
If we're talking use outside of the purposes of being "state compliant", I'm sure there's some argument as to the stability of stocks like those (the Hera CQR stocks come to mind), given the larger amount of surface area behind the receiver available to absorb the recoil forces pushing rearward. It's a similar argument for precision rifles having larger fixed stocks. Now, is that "perceived benefit" worth upgrading or swapping out your current stock or choosing something more practical/popular? For me personally, no... but it does look pretty cool. As for requiring them for state compliance... well, it would seem that decision is already made for the people. I haven't personally spent a ton of time behind some of those stocks, so no real opinion as to what makes a "great" thumbhole stock. I'm pretty sure all of the same comfort & ergonomics considerations apply here though.

I'll bet it's more the fact that metal is a good conductor of heat whereas plastic is not rather than airflow. Basically the metal pistol grip is acting a heatsink to cool your hand. An interesting idea might be for someone to make an actively cooled grip. Perhaps a battery powered TEC could be used or maybe have some type of evaporative cooling system. Another idea might be somekind of cold pack that could be placed inside the grip.
