I love that you expand the water tank to space and yet leave in the the tiles "protecting" the neutronium. :P You can protect transit tubes from pressure damage with a drop of any other liquid or a gas, similar to what you did for heavy watt joint plates on your Rime map.
@FrancisJohnYT

I did the same type of build just a day or two ago with the water tank up the entire side of the base. I added some pacu and set up automation to feed them and collect eggshells etc…there’s an awful lot of them in there now 😅 but they’ve certainly got the space! Instead of vacuuming the tank out, i left it with some chlorine at the top to keep it sterile, but opening it to space for overflow to boil off into the vacuum is a neat idea too!

5:23 You may get rid of 'extensions' by making some overpressure liquid vents at bottom of the tank with a small blob of crude oil or whatever. Also for a concern of getting in tank easily at 7:23 - it's possible to make a U-shaped liquid-lock with heavy liquid that would allow dupes to hop into the middle sections without a risk of spillage. It'd be a bit tricky with already filled tank tho.

When processing Salt Water, then that precaution at 3:00 is necessary, as the temperature for the output materials matches the temperature of the input. But unless the Brine mechanics have changed, there should be a temperature floor for processing Brine (40°C or hotter, if the input materials are hotter). The desalinator has always been a strange one in that regard. Can't verify that ingame at the moment, due to a very much melted GPU.

I really wanted FJ to read it, so I'm duplicating myself: FJ - Earlier in the series someone suggested that you play Astroneers and you replied that you did not think the player base was big enough to support your playthrough. I disagree with your reply and reasoning. IMO, your subscribers and patreons enjoy watching you, FJ, play games (full stop). Your methodology, personality, and delivery are why I watch and support you; I don't play Rimworld or Shipbreaker, but I watched your videos. I strongly encourage you to expand and play games that you, personally, enjoy, regardless of the YT viewers! I think I speak for most of your supporters that we want you to be happy and excited about the game; that enthusiasm is infectious and engaging, regardless of the game. (Your "massaging" of a games' system also makes me smile) tl;dr - Please play games for you, not for us.

You can enter the water tank through the side wall by using a liquid lock with any liquid that is heavier than water (e.g. petroleum), because water always float above petroleum, so it cannot push through the petroleum in the lock. You don't need to destruct the radbolt reflector, you can just use automation wire on it, when the signal is red, it will ignore the incoming radbolts. You don't need visco-gel to make vertical liquid lock, you can just use 2 different types of liquid to make it, it is just a little bit tricky to make it 1-tile width. Hm.. I don't know if it will improve the PC performance, but will you consider to vacuum out all the area outside of the living area? You know, the more tiles that contain gas or liquid, the more CPU power needed to calculate the flows of them. I see you don't like to use infinite storage, but don't think it as cheating, think it as performance saving maybe?

I used to have some sort of tanks and storage for these in the early/mid game, but when i start to centralize them, i build a infinite storage. I know you already have built the tank but... What about using an entire (secondary) asteroid as a water tank? From side to side, from the bottom to the top, all water. With a small space for a mini base. The only bottleneck I see is the transport to other planets. Automated rockets with liquid tanks? And yes, I've enjoyed it.

Francis! The tank isn't big enough. You realize we're going to demand you put some background tiles all the way up into space to make it even taller, right? One water tower going from the top to the bottom of the map, and then of course add in the biggest set of Rodriguez's ever to oxygenate the base; plus you could also then use a heat deletion device strapped onto the tank near the bottom to cool the 95C water down to something reasonable and temperature control the entire tank by putting some diamond temperature shift plates throughout it.... OK, nevermind, I'm thinking too big here (maybe)?
@FrancisJohnYT

Drywall it to space I can see happening. But I was also thinking rockets do check to see if they are submerged. We could build a rocket at the bottom and launch it.

I will admit I'm terribly inconsistent. Radbolts are new and trying to generate masses of them is a bit of a pain still so I'm trying to figure out what is the best way to do it. I mean we could use infinite rocket launches to generate infinite water via steam, or power via heat. But I consider that to far. Infinite rad bolts I'm ok with as it's just more of a time saver than a game breaker.

Hey Francis, dont suppose you ever figured out a way of automating delivery of radbolts to the material science station. Dripfeeding 50 or even 100 radbolts at a time seems like wasting time and the last few techs are soo tedious haha!
@ApoNono3891
@ApoNono3891 3 жыл бұрын
I do a dupe motion sensor and a timer sensor into an and gate to activate the radbolts. It mostly works but occasionally you will hit the point where you dupes get through the supplied rad bolts before the timer goes off and you have to manually fill the material station. To accomplish this I put a switch on the dupe sensor side, flip it on and hit the reset on the timer sensor. Oh - I usually set the rad bolts to get as close to 100 into the machine as I can and set the timer to 65-75 seconds.
@FrancisJohnYT

Have not got a rock solid system that will work no matter what. Their are to many variables. Like even with sensor systems and multiple science stations their is always the chance you just don't have enough rads. Though I suppose with enough stations it should be possible.
