back in 1990 I inherited my dad's stamp collection; I set it aside for about 20 yrs before diving into it. one carton contained 30 cigar boxes chock full of precancels he'd amassed, and just the sheer no. of stamps intimidated me lol. I've been slugging away at it now for the last ten years, and am finally down to the last half dozen boxes. now that I've retired, I hope to finish with the cataloging and mounting the remainder in albums. what a job!

Hey! I really enjoy these chats! Often, I don't share the same collecting interest as the theme of the talk but I still enjoy listening and learning about the different avenues of philately. I have learnt so much already and have subscribed to your channel to keep up with the latest talks. Keep up the good work and look forward to the follow up on perfins!

I wish the talk had been longer to learn more and maybe see examples of local compared to bureau.

There is nothing I dislike more than pre-cancels (talking about non US). The rarity does not factor in for me it is about what the stamp is in the sense of what its history may have been. A pre-cancel is just a fake cancelation compared to a real stamp which has travelled. When I started collecting I learned the hard way when I realized many canceled stamps from a country where looking exactly the same. The uniqueness of a real cancelation makes it interesting compared to pre cancels who all look the same (at least for non US ones). For me a stamp needs to have been stamped randomly and to have travelled to a PO to be stamped to be worth collecting.
