I believe this is Southern Chinese style of timber framing. not the same as what you find in Forbidden City, for example. Where they use castle joint extensively. the rafter is obvious give away. very different style of rafter is used in China's palace structures.

屋顶只有瓦，没有砖是 不对的，瓦下面要铺一层屋顶砖，然后切阴瓦，盖明瓦。

每个地方都不一样，不要以别的地方的做法套到其他地方，南方的瓦就是这样一片一片靠自重压着就可以的，这样更换起来很方便

Why don't you use sheet metal or plastic sheet for roof? It's more easy and less wood frame and less expenditure..

It's suppose to be a traditional house, back in the old days there's no such thing as sheet metal or plastic, that's how they built with materials available.
