A subtle reminder of how the people of this sub-continent let their guard down a 1000 years ago and we still face the repurcations to this date. We are the only region which has given birth to 4 different religions and none have ever killed each other to prove its superiority. Tolerance and acceptance were the virtues of this land, virtues which were tainted when we let our guard down a 1000 years ago. May the people of India never forget this.

Very well done. An exhilarating and engrossing talk. Amb Shringla epitomises the best of the IFS; bags of experience, a balanced outlook, exemplary communication skills, and an India-first philosophy. Proud to see that the IFS comprises people like you, Sir! Smita ji, please do organise another session soon with Mr Shringla to discuss the rest of the neighbourhood, as you alluded to. One point- in the Nepal segment, you should have asked him about the impact of the Agnipath scheme on the recruitment of Gurkhas in the Indian Army, and his thoughts on how we could keep it alive. Would have loved to hear his views on it. Keep it up, ma'am, you are doing a great job of demystifying and simplifying a plethora of relevant issues to a wide-ranging audience.

That's not balanced take about Nepal. When the boundary between east India company and Nepal was drawn river was marked as border. Now the river changed its path so the part which was of Nepal is now in India. Nepal government gave that land to India when India had war against China. What also Indians never say is until 1961 the census in that area was conducted by Nepal government and not India. Now there are few other lands which they didn't talk in this podcast. in Southern border between Nepal and India there is same issues. Rivers changed its path and India claim that land. What more interesting fact is until 1985 people of few part paid their land tax to Nepal government and not to Indian Government. In those villages there are many families who don't have citizenship either of India or Nepal.

The argument of forming a Christian state in and around Bangladesh, Myanmar and the northeastern region is a rumour created to garner support and create a fear syndrome among the Muslim majority in the region. It will never happen as the US will set up a plan to run extremism from a Christian country to disrupt China and India and give their state religion the label they now accuse Muslims of. The aim of this deliberately engineered crisis in Bangladesh by some powerful forces in the world (trying to be polite) is that militarily led weak Pakistan is no longer a good ally to take on economically fast advancing India. As a PLAN A, they have massively funded the last elections in the hope that the INDI alliance will come to power and it will mess up the Indian economy itself with 25+ ideology based parties and that these external funders will have a say in everything the government does. Now PLAN A looks like a distant dream, they move with PLAN B, bring a military rule in Bangladesh and repeat the last 50 years of engagement they had with Pakistan and continue to disrupt India which sits much closer (which is literally inside India). If India does not act to bring a democratic government back to power, it is dangerous for India and much worse for Bangladesh, which has been doing well economically in recent years. You can also see how much our media is influenced from outside. Wire, Karan Tapar, Mojo by Barkha, quint and others are now in full action on social media now. The worst part is that many extremists and opposition politicians in India are happily celebrating the crisis in Bangladesh without understanding the collateral damage that is soon waiting for us and the future generation of India.
@williamhalder98364 ай бұрын
Bangladesh aims to protest Indian aggression. Moreover they refused Indian atrocities. The same will happen to India itself for BJP, the last election in India was an example for BJP that dictatorship was not the solution. As for Bangladesh no one wants to be in a better economy by killing innocent people of the country. Hasina is a serial killer, a corrupt leader and a power hungry person. Her audacity to kill people was highly backed by India.

Judging by the comments section it is evident that nowadays people value strong words and theatrics more than calm and collected opinion. Mr. Shringla was a career diplomat. He was trained to speak in a diplomatic manner. Also, it is true that there are opportunists who are trying to co-opt the situation and use it to their advantage; and it is true for any mass protest in any country.

The opposition party is not better either. 90% people do not want the opposition party either. It’s a protest to end fascism. As simple as that. The opportunists you are talking about are very weak and they could not do shit in last 15 years. So their involvement means nothing. And if all general public are on the street, of course some of them will be opposition party team. What do you expect them to do? Support the government? It is a basic game Sheikh Hasina plays every single time. Everytime there is a protest, she blames the opposition party, like most other dictators in the world.

From 28:57 to 30:00 minutes of this video, Mr. Shringla accused that Jamaat, BNP and Shibir have entered into this movement of students. He lied all the time. This movement is basically a movement against the misrule of Awami League for the past 15 years. The people of the country were so fed up with Awami League that they were looking for a way out of it. A negative narrative of our movement is emerging from inconsiderate people like Shringla. He also presented a lot of misinformation about Bangladesh to the Indian government while serving as the High Commissioner of India posted to Bangladesh. Not only that, he directly interfered in the 2018 elections of Bangladesh. He worked only on the prescription of "RAW", he had no connection with the common people of Bangladesh and therefore he was completely ignorant of the collective consciousness of the people of this country. His activities were also involved in the cause of the accumulated anger of the people of Bangladesh. Therefore, he is largely responsible for the current bad condition of Awami League and Sheikh Hasina. He was engaged in trying to prove Bangladesh as a terrorist country to the world without any evidence. The activities of Mr. Shrigla and other like minded Indian people has created hatred against India into the mindset of Bangladeshi people. Thus peoples of Bangladesh is thinking India as the enemy of Bangladesh forever.

There has been a lack of strong political opposition, which has affected political stability. Anyone who spoke out against her faced severe consequences, either ending up in Ayna Ghor or being found under a riverbed. Just because she was a puppet for your interests doesn’t mean you condone her wrongdoings, unlike with the BDR mutiny, of which you were also a part. The student protests were legitimate, and that’s why she had to flee Bangladesh. No leader in Bangladeshi history has ever fled due to public pressure. Its time that Bangladesh Defense Forces must be alert in all sides all the time. Its time that Bangladesh Army Navy, Air-force should be ready 24/7 to thwart any attempt from outside. The kind of rhetoric we have been hearing from a neighboring country should be scrutinized seriously. Bangladesh Army must position its missiles at every KPI , Navy must be alert with their warships and submarines , Airforce must be patrolling the sky 24/7 . There is no reason to underestimate the military capability of Bangladesh. The geographical area is not any scale to measure the military capability of any country. Army must be ready along all front lines in full combat gear . There is no time for complacency when the country’s independence and sovereignty is undermined by aggressive rhetoric’s from any country . Bangladesh does not want any military conflict with any country but when any military conflict is imposed on Bangladesh , there will not be minutes wasted to retaliate in full. All internal intelligence agencies must be vigilant at every corners of the country. Its very important for the defense to create a new intelligence wing of the students. The tragic and unlawful killing of our children by Dictator Hasina Regime On July 19, 2024, Ahad, a 4-year-old child, was shot while standing on the balcony of the eighth floor. The bullet penetrated his right eye and lodged inside his head. His father rushed him to the emergency gate of Dhaka Medical Hospital, where he was declared brought dead in the ICU the next day. Ria, a 6-year-old child, was shot in the head while playing on the roof of her house in the afternoon. Despite her father's desperate attempt to get her treated at a nearby private clinic, they refused to help. Ria was then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment in the ICU. Ahmed Sani, a 7-year-old student of Mirpur 14 Jameul Uloom Madrasah, was watching the conflict outside from his window when a police bullet pierced through the glass and hit his forehead. He died instantly. Hossain, a 10-year-old boy, went out to sell popcorn as his father was ill. Tragically, he never returned home, as he was killed by two bullets in his abdomen. Safqat Samir, an 11-year-old boy, was struck by a bullet that entered his eye through a window and passed through his skull, killing him on the spot. Mubarak, aged 13, was shot dead while watching students protest. Tahmid, aged 14, a class 9 student, was killed for no reason. Naima Sultana, a 15-year-old girl from Uttara, was a class 10 student at Milestone School. She was shot dead on the fourth-floor balcony of her rented house. Her family’s village home is in Chandpur. Ifat Hasan, a 16-year-old student, was helping an injured person at Anabil Hospital near his home. According to his grieving father, police pulled Ifat from the hospital and shot him despite his father's pleas.

The U.S. under President Nixon and Henry Kissinger opposed India's support for Bangladesh's liberation due to several factors. First, Nixon and Kissinger viewed Pakistan as a crucial Cold War ally against Soviet influence, prioritizing it despite its military actions in East Pakistan. They feared that an Indian victory would shift power dynamics in South Asia, undermining U.S. interests and relations with China. Additionally, U.S. officials underestimated the strength of the Bengali independence movement, believing the Pakistani military could effectively suppress it. Furthermore, reports detailing the humanitarian crisis were overshadowed by geopolitical strategies, leading to a lack of U.S. intervention. Nixon ordered the deployment of the Seventh Fleet to intimidate India and sought a ceasefire through the UN, reflecting alignment with Pakistan's narrative. In summary, U.S. opposition stemmed from its alliance with Pakistan, geopolitical fears, and a failure to acknowledge the humanitarian crisis and the Bengali people's right to self-determination. This stance placed the U.S. at odds with India and the Soviet Union, who supported Bangladesh's liberation. U.S. intelligence reports during the Bangladesh Liberation War highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis, detailing key events such as Operation Searchlight, a brutal campaign by Pakistan against the Bengali population that involved mass killings and targeted violence. Archer Blood, the U.S. Consul General in Dhaka, described the situation as genocide and urged action from Washington. Despite these warnings, Nixon's administration chose to align with Pakistan, fearing that Indian military actions could destabilize the region. Casualty estimates during the conflict ranged from 300,000 to 3 million, with millions displaced. Although the UN acknowledged the atrocities, formal recognition of genocide by the U.S. was slow. The U.S. policy during the war was marked by a complex interplay of geopolitical interests and miscalculations, ultimately prioritizing its Cold War strategy over humanitarian concerns. India's involvement was crucial and marked by military intervention, with coordinated operations alongside the Mukti Bahini beginning on December 3, 1971. This led to a decisive victory, culminating in the surrender of over 93,000 Pakistani troops. India also opened its borders to approximately 10 million refugees fleeing violence in East Pakistan, which placed immense strain on its resources. In addition to military action, India sought international backing for the Bangladeshi cause, facing significant challenges due to U.S. support for Pakistan. Despite the Nixon administration's military presence in the Bay of Bengal, India remained committed to Bangladesh's liberation. The successful intervention solidified India's status as a regional power, reshaping the geopolitical landscape in South Asia. The legacy of this conflict fostered enduring ties between India and Bangladesh, emphasizing principles of self-determination and human rights amid geopolitical pressures. Nixon's derogatory remarks about India included calling Indian women "the most unattractive" and expressing disdain for the Indian populace. These comments reflect deep-seated prejudices that influenced U.S. foreign policy during this period.

You’re speaking on behalf of fascist Awami League. People of Bangladesh know what happened. It was not a protest encouraged by the BNP or Jamat. If the government could handle the situation smartly, we wouldn’t experience such incidents. The student wing of the ruling party attacked the peaceful protest of the students and killed 6 students on the first day and that ignited the protest. And the government was arrogant and stubborn to proceed violence with police force including the armed student wing called Chatra League. The number of killing kept increasing and the movement of quota turned into 9 point movement. The government shutdown the internet and there was mass killing. Approximately thousands of people died, mostly students who had no connection with politics. When the government declared war Against students, the sentiment of the general people went against government as most of the victims were young students and they were brutally killed. Police, BGB, RAB used deadly arms to kill the students. At last the movent turned into 1 point Movement which is the resignation of Hasina. I didn’t expect such poor or one eyed analysis from the ex Indian ambassador to Bangladesh. He spoke as a representative of Awami League

The Awami League's authoritarian rule has led to widespread discontent due to allegations of electoral fraud (similar to Modi's EVM issues), rampant corruption, economic inequality, and severe human rights abuses. The suppression of free speech and the alienation of the majority population have exacerbated the crisis. Recently, a student-led revolution resulted in unprecedented violence, with 400 people killed and 20,000 injured in just one week. This turmoil is being referred to by some as the "second independence," reflecting the intense struggle for freedom from oppressive governance.

It’s truly disheartening to hear such analogies from someone of his standing regarding this revolution. He eloquently described the US election, yet when it comes to Bangladesh, it sounds as though he is a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Awami League. To the people here, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has established a dictatorship with unwavering support from the Indian government throughout her tenure. She has consistently rigged national elections, leaving no room for fair participation by opposition parties. India’s blind support for her legitimacy, despite the will of the Bangladeshi people, now attempts to portray this public outcry as militancy. The quota movement began as a peaceful protest, but Sheikh Hasina, along with her supporters-Bangladesh Chhatra League, police, and RAB-resorted to mass violence, killing innocent students to silence them. This protest could have been resolved if she had been willing to engage with the students and address their demands. However, after the deaths of approximately 400 people (officially) and over 1,500 (unofficially), any dialogue with her is impossible; her hands are stained with blood. Her downfall is a result of her own ego and ruthlessness. India must reconsider its foreign policy toward neighboring countries. India should stand with the people, not the monsters it helps create. The message is loud and clear.

the supreme court logic given from government wasn't believable to the students, those who support hasina will only parrot this excuse, the government organizations were basically accountable to only Hasina, if she gave her consent, it would have been done in a week, these kind of petitions by some lesser known people were done previously to arrest people under the ICT act which basically curbed our freedom of speech, there was a female student of jagannath university who was in jail for a year for a facebook post, they wouldn't give her bail, postpone bail hearings to harass her there was no need for outside influence to fuel the protesters, Hasina and her ministers repeatedly attacked the protesters until the last moment, they couldn't find anything damaging against the co-ordinators so they kidnapped them and forced them to give a forced declaration of stopping the protests to a select tv channel only now we know there wasn't any damage to our internet infrastructure and the minister was saying internet was down because of damage, lying everyday and caused massive economic damage for a week only to suppress the protest. There wasn't one or few missteps from the government, they made mistakes in every step they had taken, previously people would respect Hasina because as the sole authority leader her words was the most important, this time she refused to take definitive action to solve the issue and deflected the issue to high court which reaffirmed the belief the petition to restore quotas was a government principle
