Jari is the singer/songwriter. Kai in drums joined Nightwish 2016, Jukka in base joined Nightwish 2021 and Teemu (green guitar) joined Megadeth last year replacing Kiko Loureiro.

Growling is overrated vocal style. You can't hear lyrics or melody properly. Especially when you have this kind of pure vocal sound that Jari has growling is pointless.

Just say you don't like it. Don't try to state a fact because that is not true. I can hear lyrics and melody and so do countless people who like this singing style. Most importantly we can appreciate it and couldn't imagine many songs without it.

Far from pointless, growling vocals are a great fit for music like this where the instrumentation is very heavily layered and there's often multiple melodies going on simultaneously rather than just a single lead. Growling and screams don't have a pitch the same way traditional vocals do, so you leave a lot more room for instrumentation when you don't have a vocal melody trying to compete with two guitars both doing basically leads with orchestration in the background too. You can hear these dynamics easily with Wintersun, when Jari does cleans the instrumentation often sits back a bit more and then goes really crazy again in harsh vocal sections. A big reason why Jari's vocals are so impressive is also his mastery of multiple styles with cleans, growls and the varying degrees of rasp in the middle ground. It wouldn't be the same IMO without it. Wintersun power metal wouldn't be bad I guess but I much prefer it this way personally atleast, just like you prefer cleans. The same applies to other types of metal too, could you imagine technical death metal instrumentation as an example with melodic vocal lines on top of it? Would be very hard to not make it sound idiotic, the punchy and clipped death metal vocals are almost the only thing you can do there without clashing hard.

I disagree. Song is almost always better (for me) if there is balance between cleans and growls, than if there is only clean singing or only growling. I found clean vocals often dull. Tomi Joutsen is another beast of a growler, and you can often even tell what he is singing. 😊

Subjective, as is all music. For me, they are great when I'm in the mood to listen to them. They're also decent "special effects" when used sparingly. Sometimes it's not even the point to have vocal clarity, but to blend in with the instruments.
