I got so mush sticky back on my sails i couldnt see the sail - I ended up going with 'Far eastern sails' , HK > 46 foot 2001 Benetuae , Genoa - Main , 3 reefs , Foam luff , Standard sail cloth , Sun block - 7300$ Kiwi , Now the interesting thing is they posted it as a repair Job 550$ so no GST or duty . Fitted great , Windward is now a real pleasure .

I worked in a new car sales lot after graduating high school. It was a Chrysler, Jeep, Pontiac, Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealer. Every salesman on the lot wanted to take a customer out in a Camaro and sell it to them. But they didn't turn away the little old lady who wanted to replace her older Pontiac sedan and wanted zero options. They didn't yawn in her face, either. I don't know how long the sail sales have been in operation in Australia, but i wouldn't invest any of my money who didn't really know where their bread and butter funds came from. But i am really glad you found someone who will give you what you need at an incredible price! YOU can't beat a good deal OR a good and honest company. Isn't Nutsell beautiful! And don't i want to jump to the head of the line if and when you decide to let her go! Great video! Whomever decided to film the trip out to NutShell on the dinghy was really thinking! The mirrored sea, the clouds and Nutshell were a perfect combination for some beautiful pictures! Thanks for some beautiful shots?

We are based in Cairns and also found it difficult to find a suitable Australian based vendor. We ended up using Far East Sails, based in Hong Kong. They were very good to work with and their pricing was very competitive. We bought a new main off about eighteen months ago, and now with a "new" boat, plan on buying more sails from them now. We used Far East sails because many of the sail lofts based in the the Americas are sales fronts for Asian sailmakers. Ordering directly from Asia cut out the middleman.

What a terrific posting sir, and I just knew you were talking about Precision Sails! I view many sailing/cruisers channels and the majority have used them with huge satisfaction. If I were to have a need to put new sails on, they would be my only choice. It is so nice to hear that the term “Customer Service” is much more than a word but an attitude!

I wondered what size heat exchanger was appropriate for a trans. I have a vertical air cooled heat exchanger on the velvet drive trans, looks like a small VW oil cooler. Ive not had a problem with it, but I have this niggle in my mind because a friend said that should be a coolant type. Almost all marine services seem very casual about their services, I made an appointment with a surveyor to look at a boat with me in Queensland. He didnt even turn up, I had to leave and drive back to SA. Another sailmaker, who I thought I might need to supervise getting the masts back up charged me $500 for an hours work (to the minute) Generally treated me like I was an inconvenience. I always provide my not so glowing reference for him whenever Im in a discussion about sail lofts.
@LifeinaNutshell3 жыл бұрын
We had a 6x2 inch heat exchanger but I upgraded to a 9x2 inch. The marine industry is shocking in Australia. I have been in it all my life and I am always surprised at what marine tradesmen think they can get away with. It’s appalling.

Precision Sails caters to the KZbin Cruisers. We love our Precision sails however as a local customer, we live 3 hours from them, I have to say their correspondence was lacking and their billing was borderline fraudulent. It took us 6 months to get our sails and a few run arounds as you always talked to someone else never a consistent point of contact. We will not be purchasing future sails from them even though we do like the final product. You are a KZbinr, no doubt your experience will be better than ours.
@lizgizmo13853 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. Sails are a HUGE purchase, the MOST important on a sailboat obviously. The transaction needs to be fair and transparent.

Sad testimony of Aussie industry, unfortunately it seems all too common these days not only in sailmaking. Poor attitude, work ethic, and customer service. Luckily there are still a few businesses that shine out. I bet the bad ones all complain about lack of local support, and people buying from overseas.
@philgray10233 жыл бұрын
There are some sailmakers and trimmers here, whose work is out of this world. However it would be cheaper to pay a surgeon to do the sewing. One in particular is the best. But make an outrageous guess at the price, then quadruple it and you will still be surprised.

@@philgray1023 Yeah when we lived in Victoria I got new main & jib for our Sunmaid, one quote was 1.5 times dearer than another. Obviously woven gold cloth & platinum thread is a bit dearer.

Hope you have better luck with Precision than I had last year. I thought they were wonderful too. Did all of the measuring and photos. First they said 10 to 12 weeks and it took 6 months. Of the 3 sails I ordered, two did not fit. They were off by feet not inches. My measurements were correct but the sails weren't even close. Colors were wrong. Tried to send them back and the war started. They did finally admit they were wrong and gave me my money back. Don't fall for their great customer service up front. It is all false in my opinion.
