Victory is probably one of the best tourist attractions in the UK. It's an awesome ship and there's a real sense of awe when walking around inside.

It’s amazing the impact on world history brought about by tradition of the Royal Navy during the 18th and 19th century. The British Empire spread across the planet. And much of it in wooden ships. Forest converted to ship masterpieces by skilled marine craftsmen. It’s amazing what they accomplished without electricity. You wanting to see and touch these icons was fun to watch. Your respect for their past and those who sailed them into harms way is thoughtful and informative. Makes you proud of your heritage. Love the video.

Portsmouth. I took Liberty there in 1992 when my ship pulled in after a Mid-Winter crossing from the U.S. to Norway. The Artic Ocean in winter is no joke, it beat the crap out of our 40,000 ton ship. I loved our visit to Portsmouth and visited some of the same sights you did. Spinnaker Tower wasn't there of course (not yet anyway) but the old town, HMS Warrior, Mary Rose and HMS Victory ... I wish we had been able to stay longer. There is so much there now, open to the public that wasn't when I visited. The M-33, Motor Gunboats, landing craft and #4 Boathouse just to start with. While I spent as much time as I could exploring HMS Victory no visitors were allowed down in the graving dock. It's good to see that serious preservation work is being done for the Lady. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your visit to Medusa. Knowing you folks it should be interesting.

M33 built by Workman Clarke in Belfast, the other WW! ship is HMS Caroline now an exhibit in Belfast harbour. As part of your ticket for the Royal Navy dockyard you would have got a free ferry ride to Gosport and the submarine museum. Brilliant value, the full ticket lets you see everything plus 3 boat rides and it lasts for a year, awesome.

September 1971 I was serving onboard The USS Intrepid CVS-11 An American Aircraft carrier. We docked directly behind the HMS Victory. I took the tour and took pics Of Intrepid from Victory and Pics of victory from the flight deck of Intrepid.

Great video, I was studying for the finals of my degree in Portsmouth in 1982, I can still remember all the ships in the harbour sounding their horns as Mary Rose came in for the first time in hundreds of years..

Remember watching the endeavour of raising the Mary Rose, as a kid. Real nail biting stuff, there was no guarantee they'd even raise what they managed to get. Must go and visit her myself some day. I'd recommend having a look at the Frigate Unicorn if you're ever up this way: she's berthed in Dundee (shares a dock with the North Carr lightship) and although she's nowhere near as complete as Victory or Warrior, you get a very good sense of how sailors must've been 4' tall or permanently bent double! I'm 5'10" and I lost count of how many times I hit my head... But, on the upside, she's afloat and watertight, and there is a long term plan to recreate her topside. Fascinating video, thanks.

Mary Rose was in Thunder Bay ,Ontario many years back. She looks beautiful still. Love the chance to see what your boat originally looked. Hopefully you have gained some new momentum to continue on. After reading some of the notes I must have the incorrect name of the sailing ship I saw. I'm sure it had rose in it. Now I must go looking for what ship was there in the 90's. After a quick search it was the Rose . Later a Finish tall ship visited.

Another great video from my home town and the history is mind blowing, it's a shame you couldn't see HMS Victory in all splendour, as a young lad I would visit HMS Victory at regular intervals (back then it was free) and I would join the guided tour which in those days was given by a serving naval rating, the plaque on the deck where Nelson fell used to be raised by a few inches and it was a joke that no wonder he fell there with that sticking up out of the deck, HMS Victory is a wonderful example of ship building and if you had visited the museum village of Bucklers Hard you would have seen the sort of ship yard similar to the one where HMS Victory was built. By the way Victory is still a ship of the Royal Navy, she has never been decommissioned, a huge fan of your amazing journey. One day I hope to visit you guys and see Sarinder in the flesh. Martin

You probably already know, nothing is recorded about about the french sailor who shot Lord Nelson, and google can't tell how tall people were when they were running victory. there were like 5, decks, 6 if you count where they kept the officers an the captain. Mary Rose is kool! HMS Warrior is amazing! Been a bit lucky-ish, been onboard a decommissioned ww2 ship down this way, steel, more for the crew on Mary Rose, Victory an Warrior than there was on HMAS Melbourne. Thanks alot!

Never made it to Portsmouth while serving in the USN. Glad you made a highlight of her shipping, both recent and old world. The HMS Victory and the Mary Rose are the most iconic of vessels, and aptly deserve preservation despite the ravages of time. Only the Cutty Sark is one that I've long curried a love of seeing, but Greenwich isn't really near Portsmouth. Thanks for sharing these lovely pieces of maritime history.

It was a converted tank landing craft at the end of the video, that pioneered roll on roll off ferries, the first ever sailed out of Preston to Larne, the original drawbridge winding gear is still in situ on the dock at Preston.

Did you know that HMS Victory is still in service in the Royal Navy and is the home of the First Sea Lord since 2012. So her commission pendant is for 243 years . Her masts are being restored and we have approx another 15 years yes 15 years of work before they go back on board Victory.
